Liked: I absolutely loved my time at the Makuto Hostel and I can really recommend it for any openminded traveller. It has an awesome treehouse, hammocks, a "cave", a chilloutarea with books and instruments that you can use, a kitchen and tables in the little yard/garden to sit down and have a drink and a chat with everybody. The stuff is really nice and absolutely helpful, even with things that have not really a direct connection to your stay or your jorney. It is quite small and has a family-alike atmosphere, but not in the way that it is really run by a family or you are treated like a grandson/daughter^^ it is more like you really have to try to not get to know some nice people there, because it is so chilling lying in the hammocks and have a conversation. It is also a little bit a hippie-alike atmosphere there, so when you do not like that you may be not that impressed with the hostel. For people for which the sleep and the shower are the most important things, Makuto might be not the best choice. Even if there should be and is no noise after midnight, people tend to come home late and might wake you up while climbing up their beds. The location is stunning, you will have a hard time to find the hostel. It is in the middle of the old town with little streets that follow no logic, and nearby is the place with maybe the most beautiful view on granada (i think it is called st. nikolai). I absolutely recommend the free walking tour, you get to see really nice places in granada and also some places you would never see without the walking tour (especially Malle, who lives in a cage, but you will find out about that ;-). I also recommend the Barbeque Night at saturday, that was really nice. Even with a hostel like that, it was the city of granady with all his beauty, which makes this trip so memoreable. So take your time in Granada :)

Disliked: I am kind of used to having big lockers where I can put my whole big backpack in it so I don´t have to worry about it any more. Here you just have little lockers for your important stuff. In this openminded-friendly-alternative atmosphere where nobody seems too worried about his stuff, I was a little bit concerned about my stuff, even if it was in the end for no reason and even if this hostel might be safer than, for example, a big hostel where nobody has the overview. The beds, the breakfast and the showers are not stunning, but the showers are clean and warm and the breakfast is absolutely OK for this little money (I think it is always included).

Liked: very chilled out relaxing place with nice staff (maybe a bit too nice). homely feel

Disliked: staff 'forgot' to give me back my key deposit which was weird. rooms were never locked and people wandered in and out of reception so i didn't feel super secure (though there are lockers). a small hostel so no activities organised.

Liked: This place has the ability to make you feel at home. Staff is friendly and they add to the character of the place. The property has a distinct alternative atmosphere. Very laid back. Everything I disliked about this hostel was more than compensated bij the things I loved about it. I ended up booking 2 extra nights, bacause I just could not get myself to leave.

Disliked: There are a few too many employees working at the same time to my taste. This has a tendency to create tensions between them. The room I was in had a couple of broken tiles on the floor which created a lot of noise when I did not want it to. The rooms are a bit on the small side.

Liked: Very friendly and sociable atmosphere. Great staff.

Disliked: Dorms were extremely small with insufficient space for everyones luggage. Triple bunks which shook when people moved in bed (reminded me bunks on ships). Dorm poorly ventilated and ended up hot. Showers were average (press button type with no pressure).

Liked: The location was good - a quiet backstreet but close to Gran Via Colon. There is also a mini-bus stop half a minute's walk away which can connect you to anywhere in Granada. The free walking tour was a good tour to do. Got to see some of the lookouts and visit a guy that lives in a cave. The hostel had laid back atmosphere with a small bar, terrace, hammocks and even a tree house.

Disliked: The beds in the room we stayed were super squeaky and it felt there was a major earthquake whenever someone climbed up to the top bunk or rolled over in bed. The mattresses were not comfortable at all - you could feel the wire beneath you. Security is the big issue with this hostel. From what I saw the rooms are all open with no key, key card or basically lock of any description. We stayed in a room which had swing doors. It was on the main passage so anyone and everyone could come in at any time. Because of this my friend had a guidebook and a headphone splitter stolen. They have small lockers downstairs (not convenient for our room) where you could only store a small bag. At times some of the staff seemed more interested in going for a smoke or catching up on sleep to help us with questions or provide information and general hostel services. When we wanted to check out at 8am when reception opened to get the key deposit back there was no one around and we nearly missed our train because of this.

Liked: the building is centered around the courtyard. so its a nice area for people to sit around, have a drink, and meet one another. they make dinner every night which was pretty good. This place was different, but i liked it. the people working there are cool. They have hammocks and a tree house outside. Very nice place to chill out in the courtyard.

Disliked: they could have organized more events. but it really didnt matter. there was no need for a pub crawl because the hostel people all went out after work and welcomed us to come.
