Liked: The hostel was well equiped, well designed and very comfortable. It has really good communal spaces and the roof terrace is perfect place to have a drink before heading out. The kitchen was also very well equiped although food went missing from our shelf in the fridge on 2 out of 7 nights. The use of the sauna, steam room and gym next door was an excellent addition too

Disliked: If I had to be really picky i would say the fact that not all lifts go direct to the kitchen and this sometimes means you have to go down in one to come back up in another.

Liked: The common areas were popular.

Disliked: It should be referred to as a hotel. The staff was for the most part rude and there were ridiculous rules like not being able to bring your own food or drink in. You weren't allowed to bring anything to your room and the site lies about having a kitchen area where you can cook. You can purchase overpriced pizza and beer.

Liked: I liked the bar. Place is nice and they offer good food and cheap drinks.

Disliked: Water smelled like gasoline. And it was weird. Even one member of the stuff noticed it. As i recall it was only in our bathroom. But it was enough to make our staying there complicated. We couldn't open our windows and that's something you need to do when 8 people live in the same small room.

Liked: Nice, modern building. Good location - close to the centre and not too far from the beach. Good range of evening activities and a nice bar and smoking terrace. Would definitely recommend.

Liked: Staff spoke excellent english and were very helpful facilities modern and bed comfortable everything worked and when my lock didnt, they went out of their way to fix the problem asap the shower was hot! None of the 'dislikes' would stop me staying there again.

Disliked: Some of the rooms were a little compact for a gentleman of 6ft 4 (we stayed in two) though the beds were long enough Lifts took a long time, despite there being 3! The kitchen was fine as long as you are not in there when a group (there were lots of big groups) of 20-30 kids descended to be fed The no food/drink in the rooms wasn't ideal either! None of the 'dislikes' were serious problems.

Liked: The Barcelona Urbany is excellent value for money. The staff were helpful, the rooms were colourful and spotless, the lockers were a decent size so my things were safe and I can't fault the sports facilities, it was so nice to have a pool. In fact, I've stayed in loads of hostels and this felt more like a large hotel; my room was ensuite with two showers and a toilet; the only difference was that I was sharing this room with a group of people. The Urbany has a great, lively, fun and friendly atmoshere, and the bar reminded me of a Student Union bar in a University; colourful and bright with cheap beer, free internet and a huge terrace to hang out on. The breakfast was also fine, exactly what I would expect from any hostel. I was extremely happy with the location, it's easy to get to everything from the hostel, and the staff were happy to point me in the right direction. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

Disliked: I personally have nothing bad to say about the Urbany, but as someone who has been a backpacker/traveller, I think backpackers looking for a traditional hostel vibe may be a little disapponted by the fact that the hostel is more like an efficient hotel; for example there's nothing Spanish about the hostel, it could be any hostel in any city, plus it's big, so you don't get to know everybody and bond like in small traditional hostels. It depends what you're looking for. Also, the vast majority of the cliente were teenagers on group/school trips or people in their early twenties, so someone my age (early thirties) or above might feel a little out of place. These aren't important objections though, and wouldn't prevent me from staying there again. :)

Liked: It had a nice well equipped kitchen. Great common area with lots of computers.

Disliked: A little far from the centre but it was close to a metro stop.

Liked: Architecture, near metro and a stop for a sightseeing bus. A shopping mall with Starbucks 5-10 minutrs on foot.

Disliked: The six persons room was very narrow-small for 6 persons. Too many little hidden charges.

Liked: Location was very useful if you wanted to have some of the city and the beach as everything is very accessible with the metro stations in the area.

Disliked: Room linen could be cleaner and the breakfast was not good. Very basic breakfast

Disliked: The 8 story ugly buiding and the 200rooms that could cater for 400 people.The breakfast was awful. Its for big groups of highschool kids.Not suitable for couples

Liked: clean rooms

Disliked: Its was so sterile and boring! Not a good place to meet people, breakfast was terrible, and I would avoid this place in the future.

Liked: The lockers were great with key card access. Room had a great view on the 11th floor and bathroom was ensuite. Pool and gym access around the corner was a great bonus.

Disliked: The lobby is really small and crowded making it difficult to get to elevators and staff was very busy checking in. It dosen't have a hostel like atmosphere.

Liked: Had all the services you need, decent lounge / dining / terrace area, rooms were clean and security was good. Breakfast was solid and the atmosphere was nice.

Disliked: Could have been closer to the centre / las Ramblas- it's fine though by public transport - the links are good.
