Golden Pond Guesthouse has double rooms and dormitory rooms (from two to six beds per room). When it comes to accessibility, we can't be beat! We are located less than five minutes from Hyehwa Station, near central Seoul, and literally one minute away from a major bus hub. There is a convenience store and a bank (that can exchange money) nearby.
We are only five minutes away from Sungkyunkwan University, which is over 600 years old and continues to be one of the most prominent universities in Asia for Confucian thought. We are also located near the Changgyeonggung and Gyeongbokgung palaces where the Kings used to live. We are close to Dongdaemun Market, Namdaemun Market, and Kwhangjang Market, which is famous for its cloth.
When you stay at Golden Pond Guesthouse, you'll enjoy the traditional Korean atmosphere which is lacking at many guesthouses in Seoul these days. As you can see from our photos, the Golden Pond building is modeled on a traditional Korean house (giwa-jip), whereas many other guesthouses are simply remodeled apartment buildings. In our main hallway, we have a beautiful and extensive skylight so that you can see the moon at night. You can even hang out on the roof in the summer, spring and fall (we have a "Stairway to Heaven" leading up to it)! We also have air-conditioning and a clothes drier (1000 won), and a TV is in each rooms! We are wireless-capable as well, and have a microwave, gas stove, iron, kettle and of course a toaster as well as other kitchen appliances. We also have lots of information for sightseeing. There are separate bathroom stalls for men and women.
Our staffs are very hospitable and speak English well, so rest assured that there won't be any communication difficulties. There are many inexpensive restaurants and bars are nearby, and Hyehwa / Daehangno has quite a nightlife, so even if you're jet-lagged and wake up at 3:00 AM, there's always something to do. There are always plenty of people out and about, so it's a safe and quiet place.
Our manager can teach you how to make Kimchi and how to sew Korean traditional quilts, as well as how to make Ddeok (Korean rice cakes).
Let's share Korean history, art and culture!
