Amakaya Backpackers & Adventure Centre

Amakaya means “home” and we like nothing better than to welcome you to your “home away from home”.

Fully equipped and self-catering, Amakaya has 2 braai areas, a comfortable communal lounge and an outside fire-pit with hammocks. Here you can relax and swap stories of your experiences on the Garden Route with other friendly guests that evening.
Upstairs you can relax at our bar and large open air veranda with its awesome views of the Tsitsikamma Mountains, lagoon and ocean.

Amakaya Backpackers Lodge is situated 300 metres away from Main Street where you will find various shops, restaurants, pubs and an outdoor market. A few hundred metres further down the street is the popular Central Beach.

Leisure time can be spent at our upstairs bar and open air veranda from where you can view the Tsitsikamma mountain range and the bay. This is a great place to relax after a busy day or to watch the sunrise if you are an early bird.

Our Adventure Centre will arrange your daily itinerary to get you out and about in the Garden Route area.

Our rooms and dorms are named after nearby popular mountain passes.
• Montagu twin room - 2 single beds, valuables safe, built-in cupboards. Choice of 2 shared bathrooms opposite room.
• Kaaimans twin room - 2 single beds, valuables safe, built-in cupboards. Choice of 2 shared bathrooms opposite room.
• Outeniqua en-suite room- double bed and 2 bunk beds. Full bathroom, private balcony, valuables safe, built-in cupboards. Satellite television.
• Baviaans Cabin dorm - 2 bunk beds. Shared bathroom.
• Bloukrans dorm - 4 bunk beds, en-suite bathroom, private entrance.
• Meiringspoort dorm - 8 bunk beds, shared bathroom.
• Tradouw dorm - 10 bunk beds, kitchen area, en-suite bathroom, private entrance, satellite television.

Bed and breakfast can be arranged on request.

Situated centrally and within walking distance from our main street, you'll find everything you need. From shopping malls to coffee shops, hairdresser, pubs and restaurants.

Our staff are friendly and extremely helpful with bookings and suggestions of things to do around Plettenberg Bay. Whether you want to jump out of a plane or off a bridge, want to brave the many forest and reserve walks, we have it all sorted.
