Liked: Very good value for money. Very convenient location if you want to be near the airport. Very clean. Lovely bedroom.

Liked: Arnold was a fantastic host. He gave me directions on the safest way to get where I wanted to go, not missing out any details. And he was genuinely friendly.

Disliked: Unfortunately, someone couldn't get into the lodge after hours and they persisted in ringing the gate bell and honking their horn after 10pm and then they seemed to return in the morning at about 6am. This is a reflection on poor guest behaviour; not the lodge. I hope other travellers can have more respect for lodge rules and their fellow travellers.

Liked: We stayed at the hostel literally overnight and didn't get a chance to meet people or experience facilities. But whatever we saw and experienced was very good

Liked: Good value for money close to the airport. Staff very friendly and helpful and the place was kept very clean. Rooms were nice and comfortable.

Liked: I stayed 1 night at Purple Palms Lodge and had a great time there! Staff was very very friendly and helpful. My room was big :-) and immaculately clean. Would definetely recommend the place if you travel on a tight budget. Although i was travelling alone i spent a nice evening there - chatting to staff and other guests on the veranda. You get great value for money. Thank you so much everyone at Purple Palms and I hope to be back soon!

Liked: not much, the shower was nice.

Disliked: We had booked a ensuite room but on arrival one was not available. we were given another room at a lower cost and then woken up later to be offered the room we had booked in the first place. we did not take it. The manager ordered us a taxi to take us to the airport and told us the price, it was a taxi that he used all the time and said it was reliable. At the airport the taxi driver demanded more!

Liked: Very near to the airport, shopping in walking distance (supermarket, ATM, pharmacy, bottle shop), in a safe neighborhood.

Disliked: Lonely Planet South Africa (edition 2009) mentions "free airport shuttle" which is no longer the case. The home page and hostel bookers information however describe it CORRECTLY -> error in lonely planet...

Disliked: Too bad they don't offer meals and there is no restaurant near by... And very unfortunate they don't do the free shuttle to the airport anymore!

Liked: The rooms were clean.

Disliked: The staff were so so rude. They hung around on the internet all day so you had to chuck one of them off to use it and there were loads of them. We booked through the hostelbookers website and I emailed them to make sure they had the booking, twice before they replied. I was told there was only two beds available when i'd asked for three and I could have a mattress on the floor which when we arrived the staff didn't provide. When we were there the same thing happened to two girls and they had to sleep on the couch in the lounge room. I think its a regular occurance. Our food was stolen out of the kitchen both nights we stayed there. And the airport drop off was a joke. We payed 15 pounds to be dropped off and the bloke (who works for the hostel) took us to arrivals as he had to pick somebody up! We told him we had payed good money and needed to be dropped off in departures at which point he got really rude and started shouting at us and walked off and left us in the wrong part of the airport. I know its cheap but don't stay here, its the worst hostel i've ever stayed in and i've stayed in many.
