Diamond Diggers Backpackers situated in Kensington Johannesburg South Africa, offer various styles of accommodation including small dorms, single accommodation and en-suite rooms. Our kitchen has everything you need and we have a large BBQ (Braai)

The backpackers' is a stone's throw away from many restaurants and Africa's greatest shopping hub at the Eastgate Center. Kensington is an established up-market suburb just east of the city offering easy access to Johannesburg International Airport, the CBD, SA Jewellery & Diamond Centre, the Ellis Park sports precinct and the largest collection of books in the Southern hemisphere - Collectors Treasury - within walking distance.
We are close to the integrated freeway network to the nation's capital Pretoria, Sandton, the eastern and western suburbs. There is secure parking.

Some of our many popular attractions include Gold Reef City, Soweto & the Apartheid Museum, The South African Museum of Military History, the Lion Park, Westcliff Heritage Trust, Arts on Main and Collectors Treasury – to name but a few! The city is the historic heart of the freedom struggle that took place in South Africa. Soweto is replete with schools, squares, cemeteries and other memorials that carry now-famous names.

Accommodation Information

Secure, clean accommodation in the form of Double and Single rooms as well as Dorms along with a well equipped Kitchen, hot baths and showers, and, to top it all off a pool and sauna. There is also a BBQ area and well as space to pitch a tent in the garden - we even have fire places in the lounge and in some of the Dorms.
The hostel is situated in the quiet, cosmopolitan suburb of Kensington so it is an ideal area and hostel to relax in when not buzzing around seeing new sights and experiencing the South African lifestyle.
Shuttle from airport to our hostel is available during the day if prearranged with us.

Location Information

One of Diamond Diggers biggest assets is its location which is really in the hub of many attractions! Firstly, we're situated in the leafy and secure residential suburb of Kensington. Take a walk to the supermarket over the road and experience the change in character of the different suburbs as one venture into the adjoining suburb of Fairview. At the end of our driveway is a renowned Portuguese Restaurant and just along the road there's a building - Collectors Treasury, which is home to the biggest collection of books in the Southern Hemisphere.
Diamond Diggers is on the main road between the Airports (OR Tambo International), Bus and Train station (Park station) and is also on the main mini-bus taxi and bus route - what more could you want!
The city of Johannesburg with art galleries, libraries, zoo and South African Museum of military history will give the traveller much to do when staying at our hostel.
All the tour operators and the bazbus pick-up and drop-off guests at Diamond Diggers - so really, this is the place to be!
Spectacular 360 degree views of the area can be seen from a hilltop called Caledonia Hill which is in walking distance of Diamond Diggers. The hilltop is home to the Caledonia Hill Memorial Cross to the Scottish Horse
