Liked: great for a party...Saturday hosts a pretty banging roof party [not sure if is every Saturday] but the music was awesome, would recommend it to any travellers up for a fun night!

Liked: The roof top bar was a great place for everyone to meet and chat........staff were great and helpfull with any query...and a great friendly athmosphere....will definitely be back to say hello.....

Liked: They have a parrot! (even if he is a bit bitey)

Disliked: One night there was a disco on the roof terrace which we didn't mind (in fact we joined in for a bit) as we don't mind sleeping through a bit of music. Just be aware that this is a bit of a party hostel.

Liked: Cool and easy going place with super nice staff! The location is perfect and common space (tv room, terrace bar) cool. Good place to meet other travelers!

Disliked: Many people around, also external guests renting out the terrace, meaning a potential security issue even if I had no problem (and anyway lockers are available in the rooms). The walls are very thin and you be actually be disturbed by people in the next room.

Liked: Its faciltiies were great. The roof top bar was an extra bonus.The room was bright, warm and clean.

Disliked: The exterior is off putting. There is no sign, just a doorway. I would not stay here if I was travelling on my own because Long St. doesn't feel very safe and I wouldn't walk around here solo after dark.

Liked: I had a great time at the Penthouse on Long and would recommend it to any traveller passing through Cape Town! The staff were helpful and the location is excellent for those late night revellers who want an easy place to walk home to and good company to party with (make sure you have a drink or 5 in the upstairs bar as well). The family-run venue was clean and safe and best of all....cheap. Don't go anywhere else! Hoping to see you guys again soon. Jamie

Liked: The workers treat you like family and are nice to you in a non fake way. They go out of their way to help you and make you feel right at home as soon as you walk in the door. The bathrooms/showers are always clean and private and some of the best hostel areas of this nature I have ever encountered in 5 years of backpacking. Would def stay again!!

Disliked: Our room smellled a bit like garlic but that was due more to our roomates than anything else.

Liked: The staff was very friendly and there was a big kitchen to fix meals. Also has a nice location being right on Long street. The roof-top bar is also really cool as long as you don't mind possibly being woken up by it.

Disliked: Didn't like how the place was set up. The elevator was broken so we had to walk up 6 floors. The internet was broken so we couldn't use that and the roof-top bar was so loud we could hear it in our room. Finally, since our room was next near the door to go up to the bar we had people yelling and being generally really loud oustide our room at 2am while we were trying to sleep.

Liked: They have a rooftop bar, which is a fantastic place to go unwind and meet new people after a day of sightseeing and lazing on the beach.

Disliked: The lift to get to the 6th floor is ancient and takes a long time

Liked: all the above features. Really liked the bar on the roof which was lively and atmospheric. Reception very helpful and friendly. Also the security on the front door very efficient and on the ball.

Liked: The Penthouse has lots of character. Our room was charming and we appreciated the air conditioning, since it was hot during our stay. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would recommend it to anyone.

Liked: One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. The location is amazing and the fact that it is on the 6th floor means that you don't get disturbed by the night life on the street. Staff were great, the kitchen is by far the best i've ever seen in a hostel and the rooms were clean, comfortable and good value.

Disliked: The showers could have been cleaner but I'm clutching at straws to find a problem with this place.

Disliked: waaaaay overpriced (there are hostels in the area that are nicer and cost half as much for a private room) hallway reeks of pee

Liked: A freindly easy going hostel where the staff are only to happy to help. the rooms are clean and air conditioned and the property is perfectly situated above long street, close enough to go out but the height of the property (situated on the 6th floor) means that noise disturbance is not a problem.
