Pod Skalo is the name of the native house, situated close bellow the Northern slope of the Old Castle, and known for its hospitality since the 18th century. The building itself is some hundred years old and lies between the hill and the road leading across the Tuhinj Valley to Styria.

In our small hostel eight rooms are available for the guests. They are on the first floor and in the attic of the refurbished old middle-class house. There are 7 twin or double rooms, depending on your choice, and one triple room. Each room disposes with a private bathroom/WC, and wireless internet connection.

On the ground floor is the Chinese restaurant where delicious dishes from the far away country can be tasted.

In the building next to the hostel is located a pub, reconstructed from an old farm building. Its interesting inside outfit with the old-time touch represents the picturesque history of one of the oldest inns at Kamnik. Here you can drink a cup of coffee or a pint of beer, and in summer you can enjoy licking ice-cream if you have a sweet tooth! In the evenings you are invited to play hand-football or picado.

Accommodation Information

Each room has its own carefully settled bathroom and toilet. The quests can choose among 9 twin-bed or double-bed rooms and one triple-room. Each room is equipped with the TV and radio connection, as well as with the wireless internet.

WHY VISITING KAMNIK?

Kamnik is a charming mediaeval town with rich history. It used to be the capital of Carnia, and now it is famous for its wonderful Chapel of Mali Grad (Minor Castle) on the hill above the town, from where you can enjoy a splendid view of the Kamnik and Savinja Alps. Perhaps you will have opportunity to save Veronika, an enchanted beauty, sleeping in the underground of the ancient castle and watching the old-time treasures!

Kamnik and its surroundings are a real paradise for those who like to spend their holidays close to nature. There is always interesting Velika planina – 1666 metres high mountain pasture, a real natural treasure. You can reach and enjoy its fresh air on foot or on bicycles. Then you are invited to walk to the old Alpine dairy farming settlement to taste sour milk with hard-boiled corn mush, or buy home-made curd and cheese.

The sights of the Kamnik and Savinja Alps, with peaks above 2000 m, will certainly allure some enthusiastic hikers. From the valley Kamniška Bistrica lead well marked and safe paths to the highest peaks of the Grintavci.

Not far from Kamnik is situated the largest park in Slovenia – Arboretum Volčji Potok. Walking among carefully cultivated flower-beds in the shade of century-old trees means the relaxation of soul and body.

In the immediate vicinity of the park in the wonderful pine forest is the golf course with 18 holes.

In the pleasant village of Tunice lies Naravni zdravilni gaj (Natural Healing Grove). Energy springs and the well of healing water will produce a satisfactory effect on your well-being.

For wellness friends is also available the spa Terme Snovik – the right address for those who like relaxing in a beautiful surrounding of thermal waters, or even experiencing the hand massage by skilled masseurs.
