Liked: There actually was a problem with my reservation, and the hostel was booked full. When it was confirmed that I HAD made the reservation, the owner set me up at a B&B 1 1/2 miles out of town, and payed the difference. He also drove me to the B&B that evening and picked me up the following morning. The owner of Sandra's was very helpful.

Disliked: I disliked the fact that my reservation wasn't received. But I didn't stay in the hostel, so I can't say anything about the property itself.

Liked: The fact you could wake up at any time of the morning and get youself something to eat. It was near the station and town centre, so it was easy to shop and travel. After a long day, even if you can't be bothered in cooking for youself, you can buy some fish and chips for a very reasonable price.

Disliked: Almost nothing. Just for the first time you visit, the sign is difficult to find.

Disliked: the toilet in the bathroom was leaking, beds were uncomfortable and bleeping

Liked: Good location.

Disliked: The room I got (room 4) was kind of a crap hole. My bed was on the bottom bunk and it felt old, like the springs were going to wear through. I could tell that the matress on the top bunk had been stained and rather than get a new one, they had simply flipped it over.

Liked: Location. Free Internet

Disliked: Dirty! Lots of dust. The white curtains on the room were black coloured on the bottom. There was no towels. Poor shared self-service breakfast. Very uncomfortable mattress, you feel the springs on your back. There isn't entrance, the hall is a fish'n'chips. Low price in comparison to other hotels in the zone, but in my opinion totally unrecommendable place to stay.

Liked: The staff are very friendly and helpful and the Hostel is well situated in the centre of Thurso. There is good on-street parking and it is about a ten minute easy walk from the Railway Station.The self catering facilities are good although breakfast is a limited range of cereals and toast. This hostel isn't plush but it is good value and clean.

Liked: Breakfast is included and you can help yourself around the clock. Nice staff. Downstairs, the owners have a fish&chips shop where you can get good fast food for a reasonable price. The atmosphere was a bit weird though....

Liked: In the city centre of Thurso. There was a little mixup with my booking that I did online but the manager quickly rectified it and booked me in at another B&B free of charge, which was great. Stayed there the second night and the hostel is really well kept. Free breakfast and internet.

Liked: We're a "mature couple" cycling John O'Groats to Lands End and this hostel was just as suitable for us as more "normal" backpackers. The owner was very friendly and helpful, kitchen clean and well equiped with free tea, coffee and breakfast, and free Internet access. Friendly atmosphere with other residents of all ages. A nice start to our trip.

Liked: I loved the kitchen/lounge, spent there most of my evenings. Internet was free, big +. The hostel is nice, though the profile on hostelbookers is quite incorrect.
