Important Information

SYHA is a charity aiming to inspire all, especially young people, to broaden their horizons, gain knowledge and independence through new experiences of adventure and discovery. In support of this aim, all bookings will include a temporary membership fee per person per night which is displayed as an inclusive rate. (Full, existing members of SYHA and HI using this booking engine are not entitled to a membership refund).

Newton Stewart Youth Hostel reception is open 07.00-10.00 and 17.00-23.00, with check-in from 17.00 and checkout by 10.00.
Late arrival and access outside opening hours is by pre-arrangement only. Day access for groups of 10 or more may be available on request.

From the age of 5 to 15 years, young people must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and may be accommodated in a single-gendered shared room with the parent or guardian and other guests, at the discretion and responsibility of the parent or guardian. The young person/people, the parent/guardian and the other occupants of the room must be of the same gender.

SYHA advise that additional notice be given to the destination youth hostel when travelling with children, to ensure that suitable accommodation is available. Contact details can be found on your booking confirmation.

Parties with young children (under 5 years) will only be accommodated in designated family rooms, where available. There is no capacity for extra beds or cots in a shared dormitory or private accommodation.

When booking for more than 9 people:
• Full prepayment is required within 8 weeks of arrival as otherwise the booking will automatically be cancelled
• The following cancellation charges will apply to the entire booking:
57 days or more - 20% of total cost
56 to 29 days - 55% of total cost
28 to day of arrival - 100% of total cost

No stag or hen parties are permitted at any youth hostel.

SYHA does not accept American Express cards as payment or guarantee.

About Newton Stewart Youth Hostel

Newton Stewart Youth Hostel sits in a quiet woodland area just five minutes from the picturesque market town of Newton Stewart in the beautiful south west of Scotland.

Housed in an old Victorian schoolhouse, the youth hostel is a great base for outdoor enthusiasts, families and wildlife watchers looking for budget accommodation. Good basic facilities include a self-catering kitchen, family sized bedrooms, a laundry, drying room, secure bike storage and ample on-site parking.

There are opportunities for fishing, pony trekking, wildlife watching and hill walking within the Galloway Forest Park and along the coast. The Forest Park also is the UK's first Dark Sky Park offering spectacular stellar viewing on a clear night. Mountain bikers can take the challenges at 7Stanes forests at Glentrool & Kirroughtree, The Southern Upland Way is only 8 miles away and the Sustrans Cycle Route 7 passes the youth hostel on the way to Highlands.

Accommodation Information

Day access for groups of ten or more may be available on request and subject to availability. Please ask a member of the reservations team or youth hostel manager for details. Outside wet weather facilities are available when the youth hostel is closed.

Location Information

Good local opportunities for walking, cycling, pony trekking, bird and nature watching and sightseeing.

Galloway Forest Park is nearby and the Southern Upland Way is 8 miles away.

Prime Mountain Biking is available at the 7stanes Mountain Biking Centres at Kirroughtree & Glentroll.

Cancellation Policy

Customers can cancel their reservation free of charge up to 3 days before arrival. After this date, charges will be applied by the property up to the first nights cost of the reservation, unless otherwise stated in the property’s conditions. Deposits paid are non refundable.
