About Skye Backpackers
The Isle of Skye is situated on the West coast of mainland Scotland, and is the largest and best known of the Inner Hebrides. One of Europe's most dramatic and haunting lands, words can do little justice to describe Skye's awesome beauty. The majestic Cuillin Mountains dominate a rugged landscape that is peppered with lochs and tiny fishing villages.
Whether you are coming to Skye to tackle the mighty Cuillin Ridge or simply want somewhere relaxed and comfortable to chill out, Skye Backpackers has everything you will need to ensure that you make the most of your time on this magical island.
Our rooms are cosy and clean and some have spectacular seaside views.
We have a fully equipped self catering kitchen that has everything you will need to cook your favourite meal and plenty of storage space and fridges for you to use.
We serve an optional breakfast of cereal, toast, fruit juice and a freshly baked Scottish scone. You can have a 'wee bit of everything' for just £2.00 or simply prepare your own. The choice is yours!
Our sunny dining area looks out over our lovely garden and has loads of local information to help you plan your adventure.
Our famous cosy Groove Lounge has wonderful seaside views, comfy sofas, books, games and a wonderful real coal fire. You can relax here and enjoy as much free tea, coffee and hot chocolate that you can drink and play us a tune on the hostel guitar.
We also have free WiFi and an internet cafe style computer for you to use so that you can keep in touch and boast about the fabulous island that you have discovered!
There’s plenty to see and do around the Isle of Skye so come and ask us for ideas – we’re a friendly bunch!
We will give you all of our ‘Top Tips’ on our fantastic island and will even give you a FREE MAP.
Possibly the BEST way to explore Skye is onboard our magical, mystical day tour with MacBackpackers. You can experience all of the best parts, learn all about the history & mythology and even hike up the dramatic hills for amazing views. Day tours start & finish from our hostel, cost £29 and can be booked at reception. (subject to availability)
There are endless Cycling, Walking & Kayaking Routes literally on our doorstep. If you have your own bike or kayak with you it can be stored in our shed and we have bike wash facilities in our garden.
Take some time to explore the island's haunted castle ruins; feel the mysterious presence of the legendary faeries in tranquil glens, waterfalls and mountain pools; visit whiskey distilleries and sample local beers and ales; take a relaxing stroll through the countryside or boldly ascend a mighty mountain.
If the weather catches you out, you can hire a pair of wellies and buy waterproof ponchos from reception.
We also have a guest laundry service and towels available to hire at reception.
The hostel reception is open from 7am - 12 noon and then from 5pm - 10pm.
If you arrive in the afternoon feel free to leave your bags and use the facilities, grab a cup of tea and then check-in between 5pm-10pm.
Please Note: Our latest check-in time is 22.00hrs
Please bring photographic identification with you as you will need it to be able to check in to our hostel.
If any guest within your booking is under the age of 17 you MUST contact us BEFORE making the reservation online. We have private and quad rooms that are suitable for families and we need to ensure they are available for you.
Unfortunately, due to past experiences, we are unable to accommodate stag or hen parties :(
Skye Backpackers has a variety of different room types.
We have 2 x Double Rooms, 1 x Twin Room, 1 x Triple Room, 2 x Quad Rooms, 2 x 6 Bed Dorms and 1 x 8 Bed Dorm. We also have 2 x 10 Bed Caravans in our charming hostel garden.
All of our beds come complete with fitted sheets, duvets and 2 comfy pillows so there is no need to bring your own sleeping bag.
All of our cozy rooms have shared toilets and showers and all private rooms are equipped with their own washstand.
Please note that the '10 Bed Dorm - Mixed' is our Caravan Dorm and is outdoors in the back garden. It's just like a regular mixed dorm room and is a fun and comfortable option for those backpacking on a budget!
Isle of Skye
Skye Backpackers is located in Kyleakin, the first village you reach as you come over the Skye Bridge.
Our hostel makes a perfect basecamp for those keen on exploring the vast array of delights our island has to offer. Whether you plan on joining a tour, exploring the island by bus, taking a boat trip or are planning a roadtrip, we can help you plan your day. We can book tours for you, provide bus timetables or can assist you in hiring a bike or a car.
We have even put together our own self - guided tour of our Island which directions you to all of her best bits and shares some of the legendary mythology and folklore that Skye is so famous for. Just ask at reception!
In the evenings you can relax in front of the fire or venture out to enjoy some locally caught seafood and a dram or 2 in the village pubs. Kyleakin is a friendly place where locals and visitors exchange stories and you'll probably end up chatting to the fisherman that caught your dinner - it's simply that kind of place!
