THUNDERTON HOUSE takes its name from Archibald Dunbar of Thundertoun’, (in the parish of Longmay, by Aberdeen) – an eighteenth century owner.

Prior to that, it was known as the ‘Kings House’ and the ‘Great Lodging’, with a regal past said to date as far back as the eleventh century. In the fourteenth century it was the palace of Thomas Randolph, Earl of Moray, and nephew of the great King, Robert the Bruce.
Most of the building which you see today was built in the seventeenth century by the first Lord of Duffus when the estate constituted a significant part of Elgin.
Upstairs from the pub you will find the Backpackers - 4 rooms, that sleep between 2 and 4 persons, all with colour TV and Freeview.
There is a fully equipped kitchen where you can help yourself to free tea and coffee, and cereal and toast for breakfast!
Located in the town centre, just off the high street the Thunderton is well placed to have that after shopping refreshment or bring the kids to have lunch or dinner in our children's area.
