Liked: Best hostel.! Clean, comfortable, so close to the royal mile and safe. Staff at reception and at the bar are lovely.

Disliked: Internet charges. £1 for 20 minutes

Liked: Great location very close to Edinburgh Waverley. Our group of six was given a private six-bed room that was clean and comfortable. Check-in was efficient.

Disliked: Lockers were overpriced at £3.50 for 12 hours for a medium size.

Liked: The bedrooms were excellent with the en suite facilities, the prices of the food & drink at the bar were very cheap with the food being great. The atmosphere was brilliant.

Liked: the most beautiful hostel I've ever seen! Clean, very well organized, wonderful room, with even a pub inside!

Liked: This was a very clean and tidy hostel with excellent facilities and the greatest location imaginable. I felt very comfortable with the friendly, relaxed athmosphere there.

Disliked: the beds were not that comfy.....

Liked: Clean and friendly staff. Close to everything.

Liked: I really liked how comfortable the beds were!

Disliked: The breakfast is overpriced. Also, there was a power outage the morning I was there, so no electricity and barely any running water - kind of difficult to get ready in the morning. And the bathroom light shone into the dorm room every time one of the 16 of us got up to use the bathroom in the night, making it kind of hard to sleep.

Liked: Good place, everything was quite new and clean. Good restaurant and also there is a kitchet that you can use.

Liked: I loved the location, it was very easy to walk to and from places in Edinburgh. I liked the pub/restaurant it was very affordable! You get a lot of food for a very small price which was very pleasing! They were very kind to let us leave our luggage in the luggage room while we were already checked out and waiting for our bus, which made it easy to still tour around during the day.

Disliked: Our roomates didn't flush the toilets, but that was not SmartCity's problem at all! So, nothing!

Disliked: No noise control on the Fri evening the music was very loud and not turned down which made it hard to sleep Staff very loud with the outdoor furniture both in the late evening and early morning so again hard to sleep

Liked: It is centrally located within minutes to the main Edinburgh attractions.

Disliked: It seems to be like a factory with hudnreds of beds. Lots of stag do's.

Liked: The room: beds were comfy, shower pressure and temperature were perfect The facilities: the bar/lounge was big, comfortable, and very conducive to meeting people. It also had a 20% student discount on prices that were already cheap for Edinburgh. The location was perfect- far enough from the city center to be quiet, but close enough so you could go anywhere very easily

Disliked: Some of the rooms on the first floor have windows facing a courtyard area and you can hear a lot of noise from late-night partiers and early-risers sitting at the tables. Not sure if other rooms higher up have the same problem.

Liked: Great location! Asked them if they could put me into a girls only room. They didn't have one but gave me a room all to myself (even though I'd booked into a dorm of 6), which was absolutely great. Very good self-catering facilities too.

Disliked: Only small minus: creaky floor boards. But since I had a room all to myself, it wasn't an issue.

Liked: The hostel is clean and tidy. Bar, roof terrace etc. Internet available (1 quid per 20 minutes).

Disliked: Some of the rooms (including mine) are placed just next to roof terrace (you can genuinely climb out of the window into the terrace)- it's quite awkward. The music from the bar is REALLY loud- couldn't sleep till late and had to wake up early. We were promised breakfast at 5am, never got it and my mom was late for her plane. The member of staff, when confronted about it, said 'sorry'. In overall, poor customer service- if they know they can't sort out a breakfast for 5am they just shouldn't make promises.

Liked: Stayed in four bed room with friends it was just as good as staying in any hotel it was clean and warm with lots of hot water, it felt safe and secure as there was always staff to be seen around the building. Food was good and not expensive. it was idealy located in the centre of pubs and clubs but noise from the street couldn't be heard. Would stay there again and would have no problem recommending it to anyone visiting Edinburgh!

Liked: very good location ! right in the heart of Edinburgh. Next to Royal Mile, the main street which connects all important attractions. 15 mins walk to railway station and 25 mins to Bus Station.

Disliked: sometimes the staff at reception table might make baisc mistakes, e.g. I actually booked a private triple ensuite room but when we check in, it turned into three beds in a 8-bed dorm! and we have to deal with sheets by ourselves ! Besides the price is a little bit over the value.

Liked: Great location, clean rooms and a great breakfast awaiting you in the morning. It's simple cheap and effective, all I needed.

Disliked: Some problems of noise because my room was right above the bar. Some of the doors stuck and required essentially being barged down but they were minor issues and considering the busy nature and cheapness of the place I wasn't bothered at all.

Liked: I liked the showers and toilets directly in the room (and not in a hallway). The breakfast might be expensive but it's worth the money (there are a lot of choice available). The staff was really helpful when asked to help (window stucked open for example)

Disliked: The street can be a bit noisy if you're in a room in the 1st floor (the soundproof isn't very good). The fact that there is a bar directly in the hostel might bother some people, but they are really not that loud late. Probably due to the current managers, the girls at the reception did not seem to be very well organised, causing long queue for checking in. (Waiting an hour to check in including half an hour outside in the rain isn't fun).
