Liked: It was available over New Years

Disliked: It was somewhat far away and lack of activities offered as compared to most hostels i've stayed in. The limited desk hours were somewhat inconvenient

Liked: The neiborhood was nice and near a beatiful park, complete kitchen, nice beds.

Disliked: The staff was only working until 4 pm and they send an email worning this just one day before we got there, not really easy to see and the wi-fi didn´t work well.

Liked: Stayed over Christmas, it was friendly and comfortable, a nice place to be when not at home. We stayed in the private double room on the top floor which was really nice and homely with an epic view out the window on the angled ceiling over the bed. When I lay in bed with the window blind open, I could see the stars at night, sit up a little and you could see the lights of the city. Sit up a little more and you could see the amazing rock formations out towards the coast (okay, yes, I'm a geology nerd). The room had a big screen tv at the foot of the bed and a small safe as well as a small washbasin and mirror. The bed was really comfy with nice linen.

Disliked: There were pretty much no staff around on the public holidays, but when we could catch them, they were friendly and helpful.

Liked: The staff were great, they were very helpful with directions for around the city. Nothing was a problem. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and warm.

Disliked: The only thing I did not like was being woken up by other travelers at 4.30 one morning. The were jumping around in their room, but thankfully when it was mentioned by the other person in my room the staff did something about it.

Liked: The Argyle Backpackers was a great place. I enjoyed the quiet location and homely feel. The staff were great, very friendly and efficient.

Disliked: No complaints. People should only be aware that the location is not directly in the city but the short walk is really pleasant.

Liked: They charged ridiculous prices for new years! £60 per night which is too high for what they offer. Apart from that, the rooms are nice, mine had a tv. Good free wifi that works in all rooms, nice kitchen and a cosy environment. About a 10 min walk to Edinburgh city centre so not bad location

Disliked: Overcharged for new years ... Big time!!

Liked: In a really quiet part of the town. It has really nice kitchen(s) and dining rooms where you can fix your dishes, there is a comfortable living room, where you can chill out. All facilities in very good conditions.

Disliked: Some people might not like the distance from the centre of the town. Beds are rather unstable.

Liked: Very friendly and welcoming space. It feels more like a home than a hostel! I like that there are wardrobes in the room. I only stayed one night but if I was staying longer it would have been really nice to have somewhere to hang clothes. Two kitchens is also a bonus.

Disliked: A bit far from the main part of town, but I knew that when I booked it and really wasn't bothered by it.

Liked: Close walk to city center, just on the other side of the park/university. Reception was very helpful and proactive in contacting us with the procedures of checking in after reception hours. Decent size room with television and multiple bathrooms on every level.

Liked: Good location in Marchmont and friendly house. Free Wifi and nice common areas

Disliked: A little to hot at night with heaters and 8 people in the rooms. Noisy beds but they're not that bad

Liked: I use hostels in Edinburgh on a frequent basis, and Argyle Backpackers is definitely been my favourite so far! It's more like a wee B&B set up they have going on, and I'd 100% recommend it to more mature travellers. It's still within the city, but in a fairly affluent residential area - making it handy for town, but on the same hand far enough out of town to avoid noisy traffic/revellers at 4am.

Disliked: Honestly, if I had to pick something, it would just be a shout to replace the pillows - mine was as flat as a pancake...but that's a fairly tiny thing in comparison to its many other benefits!

Liked: really great location. friendly staff and very helpful. clean and very comfortable. loved the free wifi. will definitely recommend to other backpackers and if were to go through Scotland again this would be our first choice. thank you again for a great stay.

Liked: Rooms were neat and clean. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. Staff were friendly and helpful, even in recommending good food hideouts, one of which we visited thrice in a row for meals.

Disliked: Shaky and noisy bunk beds which will disturb fellow roommates when one gets on upper bunk due to the noise from the shaking bed. Slightly untiy common room overstuffed with mismatched furnitureand random items

Liked: Friendliness of staff. Only 10min from city centre. Nice neighbourhood.

Disliked: The hostel is in a restricted parking zone. Therefore you need to park your car around 15min away.
