Liked: comfy and very homely atmosphere. Felt a lot more relaxed than some hostels I've stayed at. The location is excellent, on the edge of the Old Town, and within easy walking distance of the historic core, and Waverley Station. Good few restaurants and delis adjacent; nice quiet area. Wouldn't hesitate returning to stay.

Disliked: free tea/coffee available in the kitchen, but no milk. Bit odd;had just arrived and hadn't got to the shops to get milk, but staff came to rescue. sign on sitting/TV room door said room was shut in evenings at 10pm. Why? even if you don't want to watch the TV there's no more comfortable place available to sit and have a chat. Dining area/conservatory not so suitable. The hostel goes to the trouble to make a nice coal/wood fire in the sitting room, very comfortable seating etc but then requires early closing time! The one night I did return for an early night, a couple of lodgers stayed down chatting till about midnight and were not hassled. can't understand need for the notice. Perhaps there have been problems in the past, I don't know.

Liked: The beds were comfortable. The whole hostel was very clean. The kitchen has enough utensils to cook with and "stock" items such as milk and butter and oil you could 'borrow' from the kitchen so you don't have to buy your own. Free tea and coffee. Free wifi if you have your own laptop. Good central location.

Disliked: My bed was next to an old fireplace so there was a slight draft on the windy night but mostly was fine. This wouldn't have affected the other 3 beds in the room.

Liked: + Reasonably warm + Good location at walking distance from most sights + Nice kitchens + Didn't have to wait for a shower even once, even though I was there during New Years Eve

Disliked: - Would have been nice to have bigger lockers so that you could lock in all luggage, the lockers that are in the room are big enough for a laptop, but not for the whole bag. - No breakfast included I don't know how other hostels in Edinburgh are though.

Liked: Our stay was very good. The building is nice and the staff amazing. The location is good, only 10 minutes walking from the Royal Mile. Great kitchen!

Disliked: We booked a private room which wasn't ensuite.

Liked: Cozy atmosphere, clean and very helpful staff. Feels more like a B&B than a hostel. 10 min walk to the centre of town and good information on things to do in Edinburgh.

Disliked: No rooms with private bathrooms.

Liked: Definitely one of the best hostels I've ever stayed. It's actually a house, and the property is very clean, quiet, and safe. Beds are good. The rooms, and the kitchen, are spacious, so you don't feel cramped like in those typical hostel.There's a free wifi too.

Disliked: Minor, very minor, dislike are no breakfast, though, and the fact that you've got to walk 15-20 min to the center.

Liked: My room was lovely, beeter than expected, really clean with a big comfy bed and nicely furnished. I also thought the kitchen was good and the staff that I spoke with was really helpful and friendly

Disliked: When sharing a bathroom i would have liked cleaning products to be left in there so you can clean the toilet before/after use. there was no toilet roll left in the morning which isn't ideal, and I was woken up at 4am by a member of female staff using the linen cupboard next to my room to fornicate!! Not really what i'ld expect.

Liked: There's a sweet little pub on the corner, with the same 5 regulars every weeknight.

Disliked: While the hostel itself was ok, it turned out to be in an awkward location for a girl travelling alone- across a park from the city, forcing a long detour if returning after dark. It would probably be ok if you were travelling in a group.
