Liked: Central and cheap

Disliked: cold ( no heater inside the rooms) in february in Scottland. The bathrooms are just waful : dirty and moreover the shower is cold most of teh time. So basically, it might be ok for the summer time but avoid it during Winter!!

Liked: Nice old building, very central, very friendly staff

Disliked: It was a bit cold during the night - I ended up using two duvets as fortunately the room I was in was not full so had spares.

Liked: The staff were really helpful and the location was easy to get to from the station and walkable to everything! Good common room to meet people.

Disliked: The kitchen was really dirty and small but besides that it was great

Liked: Everything. It was clean, organized and very confortable. It was one of the best hostels I've ever stayed.

Liked: Price and the reception was very nice, helpful and accommodating. Also, there is a computer available for use in the library in case the Wi-fi is acting up.

Disliked: Very cramped rooms, cold bathroom, no printer.

Liked: This is my 1st time traveling by myself & coming to this hostel was great. I have met lots of people. I really like this hostel & will tell everyone about it... The Hostel ROCKS

Disliked: Check out is at 10.30am.... Not used to early mornings yet!

Liked: The staff are amazing here, (Nicola,Billy,Ballyn & Louise) they will go out their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable & they were all more than happy to help me out with places to see & also good places to eat. The best thing was they are all locals, so they were able to send me to more great places than just the touristy spots. The hostel is amazing value for money & the standard of cleanliness was fantastic. I will recommend this hostel to all my fellow travelers. I have been traveling for 4 months now & this would have to be one of the best hostels i have stayed in

Disliked: Not much i can say bad about this hostel, maybe i could recommend a mirror in the dorms.. that would be it

Liked: Very cheap, good location, free tea and coffee. Overall good value if you're on a budget.

Disliked: Staff weren't very friendly, the dorms were very small and cramped, the bathrooms were freezing cold and the sinks were too small. Lockout of the common room at 11pm made socialising difficult, and breakfast ended at 9.30am -- too early!

Liked: The common areas and kitchen had a good atmosphere.

Disliked: The rooms were very tightly packed and smelled a bit funny.... but that could have been the people rather than the actual room.

Liked: Not much. It was cheap, and they let us leave our bags there after we checked out (which is pretty standard everywhere). That's about it.

Disliked: The woman at the reception desk when we checked in was bizarrely rude and short with us. She demanded that we give her our reservation number otherwise we couldn't check in, which is something I've never experienced before. When I told her I didn't have it she told me to jump on the free internet computer they have next to reception and get it for her. The computer's mouse was broken, which all the other guests seemed to know about, but for some reason not the receptionist. She finally checked me in without the number. They also demand a 10pound deposit for each room key. Even though we were only there a night and only needed one between the two of us, that wasn't an option, and we had to leave our passports and go and get more money out. Our dorm room seemed to have one too many bunks squeezed into it. There was barely any room for anyone's bags, and no under-bed storage. The beds themselves were really squeaky and woke everyone up when you moved. We were appalled to realise that they only give you a pillowcase and a sheet bag thing to sleep in when you check in. You're supposed to sleep in the bag, and that way they don't have to wash the bed sheets or quilt covers. We watched a room being cleaned, which confirmed that these items were not cleaned, the place is a bed-bug outbreak waiting to happen. The only toilet with sanitary bins in it was blocked the whole time we were there. One of the showers didn't have hot water. The general feel of the place was cold and stale. The kitchen was way way too tiny, and ill-equipped, there were only two bowls in the whole kitchen! The reception was in the lounge, which closes at 11, so everyone's kind of forced to go to bed, but then when we went to check out the room was closed again for cleaning. Overall, one of the least pleasant hostels we've stayed in. I'd fork out a few extra pounds and stay somewhere nicer.

Liked: It is very close to Haymarket station and within walking distance of the centre of Edinburgh

Disliked: The sheets weren't very clean and there were shared toilets (men and women)

Liked: Perfect location, free internet. Literally a 20 second walk to the bus stop to get to the airport in the morning. Nice sheets too, and pillows.

Disliked: liked everything.

Liked: the atmosphere, and lots of things for free (the tea/coffee, borrowing plug adapter, locker to secure items, map, wifi)

Disliked: paying for breakfast when other hostels (that cost less) provided the same food for free. The showers did not have good water pressure. The kitchen closed overnight.

Liked: Very good price. The bedrooms, comon room, hall and kitchen looked really nice and new. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. Defenately worth the money!

Disliked: Showers weren't the best ever and the beds quite squeeky. But apart from that nothing.

Liked: location was good, facilities were good.

Disliked: customer service terrible. ignores you. the heater in the room could not work for nuts' sake, the room was freezing, my mom fell sick, and the recep was nonchalant about it. booked for 3 nights but checked out after 1 night. recep did not know how to handle checkouts and lost my £20 deposit. despite repeated emails, no replies from them yet.

Liked: the building is an old building , , completely renovated , and very well-decorated

Disliked: the shower was not hot , so I had to go to a sauna to have a proper hot shower , but I never complained at the reception , as it was actually working but it would stop from time to time , so warmish to cold water.... bizarre ....
