I like the chain of backpacker's atmosphere. It's very cool the way the walls are painted. Large selection of vhs and dvds to watch if you decide to stay in for the night. Staff was v. friendly and helpful. Location isn't bad, v. close to Waverly Bridge and bus station and train station.

The friendliness, and the helpfulness with my luggage, and giving me excellent directions to where I needed to go. They went the second mile for me.

Centre of town, easy to get to "old town" pubs, ghost tours and tourist stuff. It was really cost effect, and while I didn't have any issues it's definately for real backpackers and not princesses.

A quite big hostel right in the center of edinburgh. A bit dodgy, but with great commonrooms, television, films etc.

It's location was fantastic; we couldn't have been more conveniently placed for Princes street shopping, and we were very close to several other shopping centers, a few museums, and only a couple blocks from the Royal Mile. Edinburgh Castle was, therefore, fairly easy walking distance away. Also, there was a very good pub just under and around the corner.

The hostel is in a great location, right off Prince's Street so it's close to most touristy sort of things. However, the beds were too small, the bottom bunk too close to the top one allowing minimal headroom. The place is mainly geared at their longtermers, it seems, as they seem to dominate the common areas. While many were nice, the whole thing seems a bit too cliquey. The bathrooms were often out of order and you have to hunt down a clean, working shower or toilet. There were also a few reports of bedbugs I heard about from other people staying there at that time. On the plus side, though, there were roomy lockers in the dorm rooms, the place has a free TV lounge with lots of videos and DVD's for people to use, and it's definately very reasonably priced for its location. It could be a cool, trendy hostel if just a few things were changed.
