Liked: The location is great. Staffs are very friendly.

Disliked: No plug in rooms.

Liked: Large kitchen and common area. Excellent central location. Near High Street, Princess Street and the University.

Disliked: Wifi signal was very weak. No luggage room. Rooms were small.

Liked: Location was perfect, right off of High street in the middle of everything. The people solely working the reception area were very nice and helpful when checking in and asking where things were around town. The security was tight and you get a locker with your bunk at no extra charge.

Disliked: There are more "staff members" staying in the hostel than there are backpackers, and they never leave. So the kitchen, the billiards area, the one provided computer for internet, the stereo, the smoking patio and the lounge downstairs are just constantly crowded by them, and its very hard for one of the actual hostellers to use the facilities. Also the manager doesn't train or control his staff very well, and he got angry at us when we corrected a mistake that HIS workers made. We tried to cancel our last night of accomodation 48 hours ahead of time, as is the hostel's policy. The staff member working the counter stated they didn't know how to refund money to customers so we had to wait till the next morning when someone else was there. We told them that we wanted to make sure that the manager knew we were cancelling 48 hours ahead of time, but that we would wait. The next day, the same thing happened, and we were told again to wait until the next day forthe manager. When we finally talked to the manager, he got angry with us for "not following policy and losing him revinue", to which we replied that he needed to communicate with his staff better because we had followed it. He then refunded us only a portion of what we paid for accomodation and complained he would have a hard time filling the room. Fifteen minutes later it was filled. Maybe if he didn't keep such a massive STAFF on hand that paid NOTHING and used up all of his FACILITIES he wouldn't have to be such a jerk to his clients.

Liked: Close to the centre of the city. Helpful staff and nice and tidy rooms.

Disliked: The kitchen closes at night. Crapy internet.

Liked: Great location, friendly laid-back atmosphere, comfortable beds & the huge communal space & kitchen. The dorm themes were a bit cute as well.

Liked: I enjoyed most of all that it was right on the Royal Mile. Locationwise, this hostel is perfect!

Disliked: I disliked most that there is no do-it-yourself laundry facility and that there is only one computer, for which we had to pay.

Liked: I stayed in 5 different hostels during my last visit. High Street Hostel had everything I want in a hostel. Great atmosphere, clean, safe, friendly and in the best possible location (you can not get any better than the royal mile).

Disliked: Nothing I can think of.

Liked: Location was ideal, right off the Royal Mile. Breakfast offerings were simple but cheap.

Disliked: Smelled of urine almost everywhere, some very loud neighbors made for difficult sleep.

Liked: property is very central to the royal mile and was useful to be able to pop back to between site seeing and avoiding the rain. the breakfast was good value.

Liked: Good price, close to the shopping/attractions/food, comfortable beds, lockers, wifi, free hot chocolate/tea/coffee, safe.

Disliked: I like people who are sarcastic or naturally funny, but quite frankly the guy that checked me in was just obnoxious. The rest of the staff wasn't bad. Also, Wifi was only available in the main room. Couldn't charge anything in your own room as there were NO outlets in the rooms. Had to stay in the main lobby with your stuff. Still a good stay.

Liked: Great location, cozy common room, pleasant atmosphere.

Disliked: Beds a little hard (though definitely sleepable) and internet a little bit hit-and-miss. Otherwise, no real complaints.

Liked: The staff was awesome, every thursday they host a pub crawl. I was lucky to get there on a thursday night so I met a bunch of people that I could hang out with for the rest of my stay.

Disliked: There aren't any outlets in the bedrooms so charging electronics is kind of an issue.
