Definitely one of the best hostels Edinburgh has to offer. 24/7 service, friendly staff, clean and situated right next to the castle.

A pair of my jeans mysteriously 'disappeared' from the room I shared with many of the staff. They had no interest in finding them. Clothes also went missing in the washing. There are 7 sinks in the kitchen and 5 were blocked. Dirty oily water was left there for days. Rooms on the lowest floor are cold and damp. I woke to find condensation all over the screen of my phone. Lounges are cold during the day. Female only rooms aren't respected, especially not by staff. Many of the rooms are very messy, some are dirty to the point of smelling. The wifi is unreliable. The water in the showers smelt awful. It's very noisey at night - whisteling in the halls, etc long past midnight. Hostel etiquette like trying to be quiet and keeping lights to a minimum late at night while others are trying to sleep, doesn't apply here. There's definitely an 'in' clique.

Great hostel with good atmosphere. 6/7 min walk to princess street (main shopping street). Take the shuttle bus from the airport for only 3 pounds at get out at the last stop. Its a 10 min walk to the hostel, but beware: they're working on the road, so its easy to miss a turn (like we did). Make sure you have a good citymap beforehand. The hostel itself has internet, free tea/coffee in the kitchen, a big lounge area with even a dress-up box (?!) in it. Really funny. The guys behind the reception are never the same, but it still feels safe, because you can only enter with the orange card. Its directly behind Castle Rock, Whisky tour, Camera obscura etc. Only thing they could improve is vacuum behind the heaters and in the corners of the rooms.

The staff was really friendly and helpful. They put on a free pub crawl the night I was there with great drink offers. The common room is huge and a great way to meet people. They also give you free lockers with safes inside of them, so I felt very secure in leaving my valuables while I was out. I would definitely stay there again.

Helpful staff. Security measures were above average in my case as I had a locker with a safe inside it (not all lockers had this facility, however). Slightly above average breakfast. Laundry facility excellent. Wifi available. Facilities excellent. Rooms tidy. The best I have stayed in.

it's a good place to meet people and location is perfect , so close to the castle and royal mile !! and it'd be better if each bed can have a small light..

Loved the location, perfect for the sights we wanted to see and walking around the city. Nicely run, pretty efficient except for the tiny lobby space that was most often pretty crowded. We loved like 95% of the staff, so thank you for a memorable Edinburgh experience.
