Liked: Next to the castle, how closer do you want to be?? Great location!! Many common rooms to meet and greet other travellers.

Disliked: Though the sheets and pillow case are clean you still can smell the odor of the pillow case and the blanket.

Liked: really fab feel to the place -- homegrown and good people, quirky, great sense of humor. I would work there in a heartbeat. everything the descriptions promise is spot-on.

Liked: The lounges in Castle Rock were great! (there were longues for partying, for using computers, for lying on sofas, etc. whatever you want)

Liked: Very spacious and clean rooms. A huge common area to relax, sit down, eat breakfast, surf the net.

Liked: Excellent place to stay, great clean airy and bright rooms. Super friendly staff who let our grubby 3 days without showers after T in the Park selves come in and use the showers and nap on the couches for free. Great value and awesome location. Terrific place to stay. Thanks so much!

Liked: Good location. Have to show a pass to reception to get in, room is locked and have a locker right beside your bed. Bathrooms were clean and showers were a decent size with an actual door. Can get a big breakfast for 2 pounds.

Disliked: Staff were nice, but one guy who was always at reception when we stayed hadn''t been to most of the major sites and couldn't give us advice on where to go/what to see/answer most of our questions.

Liked: Central, Safe, Comfortable beds, Price, facilities

Disliked: Night Reception plays radio/CD all night and even though it is low volume, it can be heard in the room above and is very annoying. Had to tell receptionist twice until he turned it off completely. The next night, it was on again.

Liked: Before arriving at Castle Rock Hostel, I was giving hostels there last chance after previous experience but upon arriving was just blown away by the brilliance of this hostel. It has completely restored my faith and in them and I would reccomend it to anyone even the Queen.

Disliked: Nothing, everything was awesome.

Liked: It was the nicest hostel I have stayed in yet, but the best thing was the location. It was clean, extremely well organised, and very practical. Great value for money, especially with it being so central. Breakfast was cheap, and you could by a bun for 80p that served for a decent packed lunch.

Disliked: It was a big hostel, and there were 16 people in our room. However, this wasnt a problem at all, I was amazed at how courteous everyone was. Free WiFi, with 3 different connections to choose from, though at certain times, with all the people using the internet, the connections were painfully slow. But, like I said, that was only at certain times, like in the evenings. Im sure if you used it early in the morning, it would be fine.

Liked: Our room and the atmosphere were awesome. The location is perfect. It takes one minute to get to the royal mile or the grass market (where some pubs are located) and a night it is very quiet, so you won`t get disturbed while sleeping. The bathrooms get cleaned everyday so everything is very clean. I can totally recommend this hostel.

Liked: Location was good, right smack below Edinburgh Castle, great view. Also relatively close to other attractions.

Disliked: A bit hard to find. We ended up taking the worst possible route, up an impossibly steep hill with our backpacks.Toilets/Showers were functional but could be better

Liked: Despite the large dorm rooms was particularly spacious. Staff were very helpful and very chatty, great if unfamiliar with the city. Location was amazing.

Disliked: Only downside was other travellers inconsiderate behavour nothing at fault of the hostel. Internet was occasionally tough to get onto.

Liked: Very creative rooms and fun atmosphere. Of course, who doesn't love 24 hour reception.

Disliked: Pub crawls should have last minute announcements throughout the dorm for those who are not aware!

Liked: the location is fantastic and just neibourgor to the castle in the centre of the old town. the staff is so helpful and they open 24 hour per day. It was a big cathedral and refurnished to be a hostel.

Liked: Excellent hostel - very well-organized and everyone we needed was available.. I do with there was better water pressure, because the toilets on the first floor often didn't flush all the way.

Liked: Undoubtedly one of the best hostels around. Friendly staff and fabulous view of edinburgh from many of its windows around. Peaceful at night and yet just a minute's walk away from the main tourist area.
