Disliked: there was cuilding work going on so was very noisy during the day and early morning - the electricity was also turned off at one point without warning.

Liked: If it was any closer to the castle I'd have been sleeping in the dungeon or something. The hostel is big, which is a plus if you're trying to meet people, but also means it's a bit less personal and a bit more noisy. The staff were friendly and welcoming, my bed was clean and comfortable, and the state of the bathrooms sanitary. About 20 min easy walk from Waverly Station and Waverly Bridge where the Airlink stops, which was a definite plus. The restaurant/bar (Castle Arms) right next to the hostel was also DELICIOUS; it was nice to not have to go far after a long day for a great meal.

Disliked: Well really it was my own fault for booking a big room, so the noise of other travelers was a bit obnoxious. I only stayed for one night and thus didn't use the shower facilities, which were open and multi-sex. Still private stalls, obviously, but a bit disconcerting when you're flossing your teeth and a man wanders by. However, all minor complaints and I would definitely stay here again.

Liked: I liked EVERYTHING!! The people, the facilities, the services!! It is probably the very best hostel I ever stayed in!! By the way, I need to check 'no' for #7 below, but maybe I just didn't see anything about you there- don't know for sure.

Liked: Castle Rock Hostel was amazing. I wish there was a hostel like this in every city. We ended up extending our stay by an extra couple of days as the value, location, the people and everything was just too good to pass up. The kitchen facilities are awesome, huge kitchen and great range of utensils. Never had to wait as there was plenty to go around. Would definately stay again and recommend the place to anyone who is looking for a quality place to stay. Thank you to all the staff, great people, incredibly helpful and friendly. This is the kind of place you want on your travels ... seriously i love it that much haha =)

Liked: Very clean and very nice people! Incredible location and a spectacular hostel facility wise. The kitchen, the common area, the movie room, breakfast...all united by a great atmosphere by both employees and guests make of Castle Rock Hostel the best place to stay in this beautyful city! Everyone was very helpful and eager to answer all my questions or look up/ask if they didn't were sure about something. I'd definitely come back.

Disliked: The hostel was under some minor reparations but other than that,everything was great!

Liked: Extremely friendly and helpful staff, they provide free lockers, FREE WIFI!, and it felt very secure due to cards and keys that they provide. The common space was also very comfortable, and I liked the working fireplace.

Disliked: Other reviews have complained about the plug outlet (or power point as the Brits say) situation. It is absolutely ridiculous. No plugs in the rooms, and there are very few in the common areas that everyone fights over. There is a sign explaining this - that the hostel was opened in 1997 before the days when everyone had an iPod and camera with them, but seriously? That is like saying 'well this building was built in the 1850's, before the time of indoor plumbing, so you can't shower." It's 2011 for God's sake - stop making excuses and put in a few power strips. It's not that hard, and right now it's unbelievably frustrating.

Liked: Really convenient location, especially for visiting the castle. And the recommendation of the free city tour was very good.

Disliked: There were building works at the time at the hostel. I also very nearly got checked into an all-male dorm room before someone realised as I unpacked!!

Liked: It is incredibly close to the castle. Great location. Everything was clean and well maintained and each room had a theme.

Disliked: Lots of stairs to get to those upstairs rooms! Everything felt a little old, which could be good or bad depending on how you see it.
