"Location is pretty good. Fortunately spent most of the weekend in a beer-induced delirium which reduced the effect of the unimaginable horror that is this hostel."Read all Caledonian Backpackers reviews

Our rooms are centrally heated with our toasty new boilers and come in a variety of sizes. We will have your bed made and ready for you, so you don't have to mess with that stuff. We have made available a number of female-only dormitories and our other dorms are mixed-sex. The prices vary by day and room size so you will have to check. We have a room where you can leave your luggage, for early arrivals or a late departures, which is secure. We'll probably even let you go in for breakfast if you arrive before 11am on your check in day. Yes, that's correct, our breakfast goes from 7am until 11 am and is FREE. Check out time is 10am, so you can always drop your bag and grab some breakie.
Security-wise, we have the aforementioned 24-hour receptionist manning the door, as well as a key-card system to ensure no one gets access to your room. It’s a simple breakfast, hostel style, with coffee, tea, toast with vegemite, chocolate spread or jam, corn flakes, muesli or Weetabix. If you don't want to cook, there are heaps of restaurants and take away joints around. Just ask us here at reception or the bar.
Although we’ve focused on what you can do in the hostel, there are many great things on offer in Edinburgh. In the evening you should do a ghost tour, which costs about £8, but gives you a great insight into the murky history of this historic town. By day you can do a free tour, and see the best of the sights in Edinburgh. Ask at reception for more details on how to join these tours, or even find out about the excellent day tours into the highlands.
We now accept Stag and hen parties as well as large groups from 12 people to over 100 so get in touch for quotes. We have a range of epic parties which include cocktail classes, burlesque classes, pole dancing classes, Still life painting etc.
Hopefully, you’ve seen that we’re trying to provide exactly the environment we would like when we travel. It is what hostels were designed for, where they are different from hotels. Please, whoever you choose to stay with, do enjoy your stay in Edinburgh.

Caledonian Backpackers is located in the West End of Edinburgh, just under the castle. We are in the city center, at the end of Princes St, which is a very beautiful shopping street, with the castle and gardens one side and shops on the other. The main tourist sights are all within a very close walking distance, and if you want a nature walk, you can do that within 5 minutes too. Pubs and clubs are everywhere and restaurants of every type can be found within a 10 minute walk.
Free walking tours of Edinburgh leave from the Royal MIle every day at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, which is a beautiful 15 minute stroll past the castle and Princes St gardens.
One of the great things about Edinburgh is that everything is within walking distance, and somehow, no matter how much "fun" you have, you can always find your way back to the hostel. However, in case you get lost and need directions, we are located on a corner which also has The Caledonian Hotel, which is a 5 star Hilton, so local people know it better than us, so it might be better to ask for directions for that. A taxi from anywhere in the central city will cost about £4 or £5.
