Caledonian Backpackers provides more than just a bed for the night, we aim to provide our guests with a unique Scottish experience.
We have a full schedule of entertainment on offer. Sunday nights guarantee a taste of Scotland. Grab a dram of Whisky and tuck into the traditional Scottish meal of haggis, neeps and tatties to a backdrop of Scottish folk music. We also go international on Tuesday and Saturday nights with an evening of Salsa, free for guests. We don't stop at this, we arrange open mic nights every Wednesday and provide a professional set up. To keep you hydrated while you jam, we drop the price of Tenants lager to £1.50, the cheapest pint in town! If that's not enough, you’ll be pleased to hear our bar has a 24-hour licence, cheap drinks, pool tables and an amazing atmosphere guaranteed. Read more

About Caledonian Backpackers
You’re well covered when it’s time to eat. Our kitchen facilities ensure you’re well fed for the day ahead. We offer a free breakfast for all our guests, served from 7-11 am every day. Our spacious kitchen is kitted out with an oven, microwave, fridge, freezer and plenty space to sit, eat lunch and make new friends. As you’ll know there’s no shortage of quality restaurants and cafes in Edinburgh. Alternatively, pop next door to the supermarket and make the most of our self catered kitchen, you can cook up a treat with fellow guests.
Our rooms are centrally heated and come in a variety of sizes. You don't have to worry about making your bed, that's taken care of. The majority of rooms are mixed sex but female only dorms are available. Prices vary by day and room size so have a look online or give us a call before you book.
Our reception is open 24/7 and our friendly reception staff will be on hand to answer any questions. Check in opens at 2pm and check out is at 10am, but our common areas are open round the clock so you are more than welcome to chill or grab a drink if you arrive early or are looking to soak up our award winning atmosphere.
We take the safety of guests and their belongings very seriously so safe storage is provided free of charge as well as a key-card system to access rooms. The rooms are fitted with lockers, so either bring your own padlock for these, or rent one at reception for a small deposit.
There are many attractions on offer in Edinburgh. There are loads of organised tours. You can hop on and off an open top bus to see all the main attractions in a day, or by night you can give yourself a scare on Edinburgh’s famous ghost tour. We recommend taking in a birds eye view of the city up our very own volcano, Arthurs seat. There is much more on offer, just bounce down to reception and ask for more information.
We now accept Stag and hen parties as well as large groups from 12 people to over 100 so get in touch for quotes. We have a range of parties including cocktail classes, pole dancing and still life painting. Drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org. We aim to please!
For those arriving by plane, Edinburgh's new trams will drop you seconds from the hostel. Alternatively you can catch the airport bus. (See Directions)
We strive to create the environment we’d hope for when we head off on our travels. We’re passionate about the hostel, and equally as passionate about Edinburgh. We do hope you make a booking and join the Caledonian Clan.

Caledonian Backpackers is located in the West End of Edinburgh, just under the castle. We are in the city center, at the end of Princes St, which is a very beautiful shopping street, with the castle and gardens one side and shops on the other. The main tourist sights are all within a very close walking distance, and if you want a nature walk, you can do that within 5 minutes too. Pubs and clubs are everywhere and restaurants of every type can be found within a 10 minute walk.
Free walking tours of Edinburgh leave from the Royal MIle every day at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, which is a beautiful 15 minute stroll past the castle and Princes St gardens.
One of the great things about Edinburgh is that everything is within walking distance, and somehow, no matter how much "fun" you have, you can always find your way back to the hostel. However, in case you get lost and need directions, we are located on a corner which also has The Caledonian Hotel, which is a 5 star Hilton, so local people know it better than us, so it might be better to ask for directions for that. A taxi from anywhere in the central city will cost about £4 or £5.
