Liked: Everything about my stay was very straightforward from the initial email contact re checking in to being able to extend my stay due to train problems. The hostel was clean, safe and secure and my experience was enhanced by efficient, friendly staff, a tasty breakfast and facilities such as left luggage, lockers and towels, all at a reasonable rate. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Disliked: Internet should be free!! and even if it is not free, at least have signal going to the room. No fun to have to go to the reception/front desk just to get internet signal.

Liked: Great location, friendly staff.

Disliked: Was in a dorm facing the main street on a Saturday night and the sound-proofing was rubbish - could hear all the muppets wandering down the street from Three Sisters. Seems every half hour was another group of people playing rugby in the street. Madness.

Liked: Great location, very clean and the beds were very comfy.

Disliked: Kitchen and dining room far too small for the number of people that stay there, the addition of another common room would be a great improvement.

Liked: I would highly recommend Budget Backpackers for your stay in Edinburgh! Very helpful and friendly staff and safe environment. Location is great as well. All around, great time and great stay!

Disliked: There wasn't much to dislike!

Liked: While in the middle of repairs, the facility was very clean and the kitchen was lively with people meeting people.

Disliked: The room I was in was on the far side of the repairs so I had to go around going both up and downstairs. The bed I chose was terribly squeaky but it was one of the few that did.

Liked: The hostel was very clean, and appeared to be newly renovated. Being a single traveller, I felt very safe and secure in the hostel, and they provide decent sized lockers in the rooms (padlocks available for a £5 deposit). Great location, and the £2 breakfast isn't bad. All staff were very friendly and helpful with any queries I had, and the hostel works with other tour companies to get you good offers.

Disliked: The only problem I found was the bathrooms were a little cramped, and there was nowhere to put your clothes while in the shower and no cubicle to dress in.

Liked: First of all the location was great. You walk out of the Hostel and there is a plaque on the ground marking a spot for a beautiful picture of the Castle. Second, the staff. These people are amazing. Seriously, go on the walking tour, go on the pub crawl get to know them! When we went we met sooo many cool people. Some just in the room who we'd talk to every time we were both there and others that we met at breakfast that we ended up spending the whole day with.

Disliked: the lock to the top part of our room didn't lock. But really it was fine, we didn't have any issues.

Disliked: the breakfast was horrible, the worst I have ever seen, except this point everything was ok.

Liked: Really nice location. Staff were helpful, nice and funny. Big rooms, really clean. Comfortable bed. Big-size lockers in the room. Had nice roomates. Clean toilets and showers. Cheap breakfast.

Liked: The staff were fantastic and the building itself is amazing. The dorm was nice and roomy as well - lots and lots of space for the ten people in there.

Liked: It was suitably placed in the old town and close to a lot of the attraction. Nice and spacey rooms. Clean.

Disliked: Just stayed for one night so I might be a bit jugdemental, but I think the place is too big and impersonal for my flavor.

Liked: Place was clean, recently re-painted and inviting. Beds were comfortable.

Disliked: Extra charges for everything. 2 quid was too much for a breakfast that many hostels provide for free - muesli or cornflakes and white toast with butter or jam. For a little more money, a filling, hot breakfast can be had down the street at Auld Jock's. The bathrooms were tiny and the single sex bathrooms did not offer anywhere to change except in the narrow space between the toilets and sinks in front of everyone.

Liked: Staff were fantatsic and friendly & helpful. Had good laugh with them :)

Disliked: Showers took a few mins to get warm, but then were hot.
