Liked: There was a bed to sleep in.

Disliked: The staff at the hostel were extremely rude and disrespectful. My group staying at the hostel could not find clean beds but were simply offered our money back instead of an apology. The linens seemed to have just been 'messed' and we were assured they were clean. I was dissapointed in the way we were treated and will not be recommending Westend to anyone traveling to Scotland in the future.

Liked: Very clean..nice hot showers...nice staff,especially Dee who was very nice to a group of 7 of us who stayed...excellent free cooking facilities..beer garden out the back as well..free wifi..no curfew..would definitely recommend!..excellent value for money.

Disliked: No lockers in our rooms, although there were locker facilities downstairs they were very small and could only be used to hold wallets, cash, keys etc..the 12 bed dorm was a bit stuffy, beds were squeaky but quite comfy

Liked: The non-hostel look of the place, cheapest alcohol in edinburgh, quiet location, respectful residents.

Disliked: Not very much to be honest. If I had to nit pick, the mised sex washing facilities is a bit of a bad idea in my opinion but it seems to work.

Liked: The location was good. Not much traffic, a pretty quiet place. The bar was nice. And one man in the staff was very kind.

Disliked: The bunkbeds was extremely noicy and wobbly. The room was too narrow, no place for your bag/backpack. Things lay all over the floor. There was no shelf, hangers or hooks for clothes. Most of the bedlamps where broken. It was quite too weak light in the "bathroom". And only one toilet for 2 dorms..You needed your keycard for the toilet, and people forgot it all the time and nock at the door day and night. It was impossible to close the door to the dorm quiet, it slamed a lot. Inefficiently soundproof.

Liked: Very modern and hospitable. It was easy to deal with management and I thought the bar and breakfast services were very good. Overall it was comfortable and I'm glad I stayed there.

Disliked: Would have been nice to have a morning porter present when I checked out. Luckily I knew my way to the airport bus stop but would have been lost otherwise with nobody to give me advice! My bed wasn't the most comfortable but perhaps I drew the short straw! In terms of my overall impression, these are small things, though.

Liked: Most bar staff were friendly, the odd one, have very little manners. Good place to meet people. Location was ok, alot of walking if you are out at night though.

Disliked: Being woken up by the drilling noise next door, started around 8.30/9am every morning. Building is not wheelchair accessable. No bar food during the day. Breakfast finishes way too early. Fire Alarm check is not sufficient for the building. Good question raised about the fire escape plan. Not allowed to bring drink up to the room, or the back garden. Not a good idea mixing a hostel/hotel.

Liked: We got there earlier than check in but the staff let us check in anyway which was helpful, Staff were very helpful, the kitchen they provided for self use was great, very equipped. Rooms were comfortable, shower and bathroom nice and very clean. Great Place!!

Disliked: It was a bit noisy as was were in a 10 share dorm, but thats to be expected a little. The light for the bathroom and toilets comes on automatically which is handy but you also cant switch them off, so at night they linger on. No powerpoints in your room which they say is for safety.

Liked: The location is great if you want one near the Haymarket Train Station. It was in a quiet location (not much street noise) and it was one of the least expensive hostels in Edinburgh.

Disliked: The common area downstairs was very small. The kitchen appeared a bit dirty and you can't get in until 8am. That is a bit late for people who like to get the day started. The beds were very squeaky and moved a lot. It was one of the worst nights sleeps I have ever had in a hostel. It is also a bit of a walk form the center and nightlife.

Disliked: No socket-outlets (to charge e.g. the mobile) in the 18-bed-dorm; no functional hairdryer; few functional reading-lamps in 18-bed-dorm

Liked: the rooms are clean, the kitchen as well and it is very well equiped, the staff is very friendly, there is a connection to internet and washing machine available to all the guests

Disliked: the sound of the beds when somebody is lying (and moving) on them

Liked: The staff is what really made this hostel amazing! They go above and beyond to make travelers feel welcome and are willing to help in whatever way possible! They offered laundry, internet, had a bar, offered breakfast, and very safe feel. Best hostel I've been to.

Disliked: No answer.

Liked: The cleanliness and the size of the dorms.

Disliked: electrical outlets not in the dorms, one toilet for each level . but besides that great place to stay

Liked: It is very good value for money and that is what market is all about.

Disliked: While the property is on the whole safe, I would have loved to have a locker where I can store my valuables. They have such locker but it is very small. It does not take a small brief case.

Liked: Close to Haymarket railway station but also handy for centre of Edinburgh. Hotel was clean and staff were young but very friendly and helpful. It seems to be associated with football though as almost all of the guests were men and the bar restaurant was showing football matches on a large TV so this hotel is unlikely to be a first choice for women. Lots of guys drinking beer in the bar and standing outside smoking etc. Rooms are well appointed, almost boutique style but yet there is one room (No.1) which appears to contain a large number of beds (>6?) a la hostel style, so it is an odd mixture. Breakfast was very unexciting, packaged cereals etc. Good for a couple of days stay but probably not more....especially if major football matches are on.

Liked: Greatest thing is the stuff... they are superfriendly and will help you with everything you need!

Disliked: There are some things that could be better: - Beds are too noisy. - There are not enough sockets on the rooms and facilities. - Kitchen and TV area are closed too early. - Lights in the bathroom are too dim. And specially just having one toilet for both shared dorms is too little, but it's really clean all the time.

Liked: We loved the layout of the place & its comfort. The staff was professional and really helpful. Breakfast was extremely good value for money (two pounds all you can eat cereal & toast). We would highly recommend this place for backpackers and for other hostels to come and learn a lesson.

Disliked: The kitchen and sitting area closes at 11 because the staff stays in rooms next to it. You should have eaten before you get back home and be ready to go to bed.
