Liked: Very welcoming and spotlessly cl;ean. Nice folks who have a great attitude to guests. Modern facilities.

Disliked: I think bed and breakfast would be a better description than hostel. To us hostel conveys a level of budget accommodation where folks have access to kitchen facilities to self cater. I think School House should make it clear than only meals which are provided can be expected. We paid more than usual for a hostel and then had to go out and buy a bar meal in Ballater. I also fail to see why Friday night should be more expensive than other nights, especially when the hostel is not full. The hostel is a great place for travellers who do not want to self cater and who are prepared to biuy cooked meals. Bob Hardwick

Liked: It is a pleasant building with garden in a quiet part of town. Shops and takeaway are handy. Tea and coffee are available all day, but there are no coking facilities.The owners and student staff were very friendly.

Liked: The rooms were very clean, fresh and modern, I had a cozy nights sleep and got a lie in and late breakfast which was just what I needed. The owners were very friendly and helpful and I would recommend the Schoolhouse as a first choice for anyone visiting Ballater or Deeside.

Liked: It's a charming B&B and Cathy, the host, is very hospitable and friendly. Breakfast was great and there is a good range of complimentary hot drinks available. However, as it is a B&B there are no kitchen facilities for guests to use. The shower was hot with good pressure and the beds were luxuriously comfortable. The lounge area has fantastic couches (from a hotel) and a lovely open fire. Would love to stay longer another time.

Liked: This hostel is the best hostel we had in Scotland. The staff gave us a warm welcome, made us feel comfortable and was very clean. The atmosphere was fantastic, we had a great stay!!!
