Liked: The location is absolutely great in the heart of Moscow, only minutes walk to the Kremlin and Red Square. There are several restaurants and minimarts in the neighborhood and the price to stay at a la Russe is cheap. Keep in mind that this is a budget hostel, so don't expect high standards on showers, restrooms etc. I stayed in a private single room and felt safe there. There was TV (Russian channels only), hairdryer and a large bed. There was also a heater since there were no radiators in the room. The staff is very friendly and helpful and speak good English. All in all, a la Russe is an excellent budget alternative for travellers who do not require such high standards but focus on experiences during the daytime and just need a place to sleep at night.

Disliked: The look to my room was somewhat quirky and I guess it could easily bee picked but I felt safe anyway. I didn't like the carpets and the two very small toilets.

Disliked: weird russian people staying there. Get a locker asap. Pretend not to understand. Personal is nice.

Liked: Excellent staff. Clean hostel. Great location

Disliked: Seemed during our visit to be mostly filled with Russian long-termers (workers it seemed) who often lounged about at night taking up all the space, talking loudly in groups with no shirts on etc. Might sound trivial but they dominated the atmosphere and made it less than 100% welcoming for "normal tourists" like us. It was a shame as otherwise this hostel was excellent but it really affected how comfortable and how secure we felt there.

Disliked: Toilets and showers dirty and the whole building is going through construction so workers were working most of the night.

Liked: Private double is equipped with TV, kettle, small portable heater and hair dryer inside the room. Good location in the center of Moscow.

Disliked: Some parts of the hostel are under construction; and because of that, it is noisy and the kitchen area is not clean. The switch of the light is somehow outside of the room. It is very inconvenient. The shared toilets are very small. Wi-Fi was not stable and had problem to get good connection inside the room.

Disliked: lack of lockers in dorms (but there are lockers in main reception area); doors to bedrooms do not have locks on them so anyone can get in

Liked: Good location and fun and somewhat helpful staff. Everything worked and cleaning staff was attentive. Lots of construction, but stops at night and shows the hostel wants to make good improvements and investment for the future.

Disliked: Long term residents who treat the place like their own apartment and who have nothing to do with real travellers, which is part of the whole hostelling experience. If I want a bunch of complete and unfriendly strangers, I will go to a hotel instead. Luckily, only a few of these unfriendly types here.
