Liked: The cat was amazing and very friendly. The man in charge was very helpful, he gave us a free map, and a free tranfer back to the station. We stayed in the double room which was very large and comfortable. The shower was massive and luxurious.

Disliked: The hostel was clean throughout except the cat's litter tray was in the bathroom and it always stank of wee.

Liked: I like very much the family atmosphere on the Nova. Hostel. Here I had wonderfull talks with the owner Oleg and the worker Ira. The hostel is situated direct in the city center. Around there are a lot of bars and clubs for tourist, as well for Moscowians. Not far is a beautiful park, where the people meet, sit and play music. The hostel was perfect. so I extended my stay for an additional week.

Liked: Great atmosphere, the owner is a very friendly person which helped us out quite a few times. Location is excellent too: not too crowded but close to the major sightings in the center.

Disliked: i love cats but in an enclosed place, it tends to smell. not able to sit in the lounge area for long.

Liked: Location is ok.

Disliked: 1. When we arrived, we were asked whether we'd like the room. If not, we could go to another apartment to see (which is 20 mins by metro!) 2. We were asked to pay the full amount (but actually we had already paid 10% deposit via online booking) Contrary to the few comments seen from the website, we could hardly communicate with the host and got no resources at all (not even a city map). Later on, we found that the real host was out town, leavin the property to his friends/relative to take care. 3. Not organized at all - we checked in before noon and then came back, finding that all my stuff has been thrown to another bed. (The "host" said that it was because somebody else already staying there requested for change of bed. Ridiculous!) 4. We asked for proof of stay (not Local Registration) and the host just mentioned that we would need to pay. Eventually, we need to wait for more than an hour for an official receipt.

Liked: Alex, the guy who runs the hostel, was pretty friendly on arrival and the apartment is well kept, if a little short on space. The kitchen was pretty decent and the flatscreen TV in the living room was excellent. It was also nice to have free internet access via the laptop in the kitchen. The shower, although a little unconventional, was also excellent.

Disliked: The hostel is basically a converted apartment so space is a bit of an issue. The beds in the dorm are quite close together and there is not that much space in the living room if 3 or 4 people are sitting in there. There is an old cat who seems to be the hostel mascot but on the first night it decided it liked my bed and when I tried to move it off, it just hissed at me twice and stayed there. I also didn't like the fact that one of the staff members sat using the guest laptop for about 15-20 minutes, completely ignoring the fact that I was waiting. One other thing (and I'm not 100% sure about this) is that it seemed that walk in guests were paying a fair bit less to stay than people who had booked via Hostelbookers.com. I hope this doesn't sound like I have an axe to grind; the hostel was a nice enough place but I'm just not completely sure I'd recommend it to someone, however I have heard that the hostels in Moscow in general leave a little to be desired - strange for such a big city!

Liked: Nice and cosy, great location and all the latest modcons

Disliked: nothing i particularly dislike but the hostel is more of an apartment so it is without the crazy backpackers atmosphere of larger hostels. Which, in a way was quite nice and relaxing.

Liked: Nice atmosphere, you felt at home. Certainly after some strange encounters and experiences, this was a warm welcome.

Liked: Feels like a homestay (it's an apartment with rooms set up with beds). Living room is common room, and while small and cozy it's nice and clean. Bathroom is clean, rooms clean, kitchen clean etc. Very close to a major metro station and 15 mins walk to Kremlin and Red Square. Good area to stay in. Not a place to meet party backpackers and not a party hostel, but a place to relax after being out all day. Great place for couples, but I'd recommend to singles as well. Alex is friendly and nice, sometimes seems too relaxed, but that was cool with me.

Disliked: Windows open up to a street, and while it's not a main street, it's busy as the cars driving along literally race along the street, and the noise bounces off the buildings. In other words, you might be awaken at 7am by loud cars racing by on the street below, and/or honking.

Liked: After an initial misunderstanding (the owner asked we to go to other rooms in another building 10 min walk farer, but we preferred stay at the address we have seen on internet ), Alex has been very helpful and kind. Rooms are small but comfortable and the cat Vasij is fantastic!
