Liked: Very good location. Very close to metro and walking distance from red square. Quiet.

Disliked: Overcrowded. No space between beds (so bedrooms were a mess and felt cramped). Lockers were small (e.g. for valuables, not backpacks). Only one working toilet during half my stay (and only two showers). 4th floor in building w/o elevator. This place would be pretty good if facilities were sufficient for how many people stayed.

Liked: Great location right near the red square.

Disliked: The hostel staff were not at all interested. It seemed like it took all their strength in the world to check me in and there was definitely no tour given. When I asked for a map they acted like it was the most difficult task in the world and eventually I was told by another guest to get one out of the back of a magazine. Appalling. The hostel seems to attract a lot of people staying for a long period of time and a lot of older gentleman. It is not a great place to meet people and I would definitely not recommend it for someone travelling on their own.

Liked: No keys to the rooms, worked well. Good staff island in the middle f the hostel. Nice common area with cheap snacks and drinks. Wifi was excellent even in the room.

Disliked: They do not serve breakfat but on the website it said they did. Some of the staff seemed bored and not willing to help. Sone of the staff is not that knowledgeable aboutt stuff like traintickets

Liked: Fun atmosphere. Pretty girls work the front desk.

Disliked: After paying the deposit required online, my confirmation said that I would have to pay 580 rubles upon arrival (about 20 dollars). However, when I showed up, they charged me 900 rubles (about 30 dollars). Did the hostel overcharge me, and pocket the difference? I know that Moscow (solely) charges an "administrative fee", but I stayed at the same hostel a couple of weeks ago, and shouldn't the fee be payed just once if it's a city admin fee? And regarding the "city fee", this should be mentioned in the listing, so guests know what to expect to pay. I still don't know whether I was scammed or not. I know Moscow is an expensive city, but I did the math... each bed costs $40/night, and they have 8 beds in each room. They're making $320/room per night, which is what you'd pay for a much bigger room at the Waldorf-Astoria, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, etc. And clearly, there's a BIG difference between staying at the Napolean Hostel and those high-end luxury hotels. Someone in Moscow is making a KILLING off this hostel, on the backs of impecunious students.

Liked: There is a lot of mouldiness in one Bathroom and around the washbasins. Not very healthy. Napoleons was Hostel of the Year (in 2007) seven,...but far away from becoming it another time. Staff were overall very nice and very helpful, about that is nothing to be faulted.

Liked: Great Location! Clean rooms. Almost clean showers, but the kitchen was awful!!! No flitered water. No Oven, only Hob, Microwave was broken!! We stayed at Soul Kitchen in St Petersburg first, and this had a much better kitchen.

Liked: the place is definitely good value for the money but i think the location is the best thing this hostel has to offer. Kremlin and the red square (and all the other sights) are all within walking distance from the hostel.the common area is pretty small and is populated by the Russian (girls) working at the hostel. there is not really a travelers atmosphere. i have to add that the staff of the hostel is very friendly and helpful as well.all in all, the place is worth recommendation...

Liked: The location of Napoleon is great, it's about a 10 minute walk from Red Square or 3 minutes to the nearest Metro (Kitai Gorod), there's a supermarket nearby (and even a McDonaldski if you're so inclined). The thing that stands out most about my stay at Napoleon is this - walking up the stairwell and into the lounge/reception my first impression was "this place needs a good clean" but by the end of the stay I was genuinely a little sad to leave. The staff really make Napoleon special - they are all very friendly and helpful, they're individuals but they all have something to share with you. whether it's help translating a flyer, buying a phonecard, working out how the heck to buy a stamp for your postcards to Mum, they will do their bit for you. If, no, make that when I return to Moscow in the future, I'll be staying here.

Liked: This hostel is in a very convenient location, just a 2 min walk from the metro station (Kitay Gorod) and 8-10 min walk from Red Square.Richard (One of the Managers) was extremely helpful and friendly, which, in a city like Moscow, is of great benefit.
