German Spanish Hostel MARA is situated exactly in The Council Square, a big square in the heart of the old German city; in some places it is still surrounded by the original walls of the old city. Its buildings remind of the German inheritance of the region. The square is surrounded by shops, caffe shops and restaurants. Puddlers, strolling musicians and exotic gypsies give life and colour to the square.

Close to The Counsel Square there's the spiral tour of The Black Church. The black face masterpiece was built at the start of the 15th century and it took its name from the fire in 1689 which left the church black. The church can be visited even though right now it's being repaired. Occasionally the church is staging concerts of classic music. Near the Black Church there's Republicii Street - a nice place for a walk and a great opportunity for shopping. Here you can find especially handicraft shops where they sell: painted eggs, wollen carpets, wooden toys and engravings. The best view of Brasov can be seen from Tampa (the mountain top) after a trip in the funicular (daily between 10 h and 18 h excepting Mondays). You get to the funicular after a walk in the old area of the city, leaving The Counsel Square and going up the street Apollonia Hirscher.

At the end of the street Apollonia Hirscher you go left on Castelului street. Then you go right on Romer street till the end of the street where you go up the stairs that get to the funicular station. Right at the entrance there are the ruins of the old wall of the city. Going along the wall you can get to the Weaver's Bastion (it is one of the corners of the city that lasts since 1421-1436 and it houses a museum occasonally opened to the public).
