Madeira Island is a lush green speck in the Atlantic, about 600 miles from Lisbon and 500 miles from the coast of Morocco.

Standing like a fortress amid the Atlantic swell, its shores are washed by the Gulf Stream giving it a mild and temperate climate all the year round.
Inaugurated as a five-star hotel in 1989, the sunny Quinta da Bela Vista is conveniently situated in Funchal, just over 8 minutes from the town centre.

Dating from 1844, this Madeira Quinta is proud to have been the first converted into a hotel and still belongs to its original family. Engaged in the traditions of the past and preserving the art of good hospitality above all, the hotel lives up to its name by existing on two and a half acres of exotic and luxuriant gardens made up of plant species from the four corners of the world that inspire moments of peace, pleasure and communion with nature.

The complex includes two restaurants, known in the region for its first-class cuisine. A full European breakfast and a table d’Hôte menu are served in restaurant Avista Navios, where a bow window transports you to the beautiful gardens. À La Carte is offered in restaurant Casa Mãe – an 1844 manor house – where authentic antiques, carved woodwork, tapestries, finest paintings and exquisite cuisine create a feast for eyes and palate.

With breathtaking views of the mountains, sea and bay of Funchal, the swimming pool area has an outstanding sun terrace. The outdoor freshwater swimming pool is heated all year round – the Staff will gladly provide sun lounges, parasols and towels. This is a perfect place to relax as you can also ease yourself into one of the chairs of the poolside snack bar and enjoy a cocktail or lighter meal, while overlooking Funchal bay.

The Quinta is set in 25.000 sqm of old established gardens with narrow cobbled paths and many exotic specimen trees and shrubs, such as kapok, paulownia, hibiscus and colourful flowering creepers. It is situated on the hillside on the northwest outskirts of Funchal, 1,5 miles from centre, with superb views across the mountains, bay and, on a clear day, to the Desertas Islands.
