Overview

Located in the most characteristic of Lisbon’s neighborhoods, among winding streets and small cobbled squares, is Alfama Patio (APH): a traditional house, where the living room and kitchen extend onto a grassy garden patio, with greenery climbing the walls and flowers spilling out over their pots. A few steps up, a deck terrace overlook red-roofed buildings and the Tagus River, lying beneath Lisbon's trademark golden sunlight.

Patio hostels, with Patios that you can use all year long
The patio – the heart of the house which, undoubtedly, contributed to the hostel’s international “Best Atmosphere” award - is where it all happens: a delicious pancake breakfast every morning, a BBQ and DJ on Saturdays, film night on Mondays and a Latin fiesta on Wednesdays. It’s in this setting, at once upbeat and laid-back, that nationalities intermingle and friendships are made.

But to discover the city, you must venture out beyond the front gate. Regular group outings lead you to some of the best of what Lisbon has to offer – a Brazilian music and dance party held locally on Tuesdays, an evening of live Portuguese fado music on Thursdays, and bar-hopping into the night in the Bairro Alto neighborhood on Fridays.

Some of Lisbon’s most popular monuments are barely past the Hostel’s doorstep, and others just a ride away on one of the city’s yellow Eléctricos (riding in one of these trams is a must-do for any visitor anyway). And because there’s a lot worth a seeing outside Lisbon, groups of 5 or more can hop on the hostel’s own van and be shuttled to nearby Cascais and Sintra or to one of several magnificent beaches close by.

If after all this you’re still undecided, then it may help to know that APH has won successive “Best Staff” awards. When you arrive and are welcomed with open arms, you’ll understand why.

During summer we keep some beds for Walk Inns (guests without reservation)

Accommodation Information

In our hostel we have shared dormitories with 4 and 6 beds and shared bathroom. We have one six bed dorm with private bathroom and female only. As well we have two double rooms with shared bathroom, but with balcony and very nice view to the river and Alfama district and one luxury double room with bathroom, living room and rest room. We can accommodate at this moment 30 persons, but we are still growing. Our rooms are very sunny and most of them have balconies. Girls don’t worry! Mirror in every room! Small lights and box for your small personal stuff available for every bed. Our rooms are mostly decorated in eclectic style - here modern things meet antique ones and give them new life.

Location Information

Some of the most visited monuments are at walking distance: Lisbon Castle, Se Cathedral, National Pantheon, S. Vicente Fora Monastery and many more.

Even today, as in the past, white clothes hang at the windows to dry, colorful flowers sit on ledges and legendary yellow trams wind their way up Lisbon's narrow streets.

Our hostel has a private grass courtyard with barbecue and hammocks, and a terrace with stunning views over the Alfama district, the Tagus River and the S. Vicente de Fora Church and Monastery.

We have a very familiar atmosphere and we are friendly. You will immediately feel like home.

We will help you plan your stay and guide you through the city’s hot spots. You will not miss the best that Lisbon offers.

Alfama Patio Hostel is definitely the right place for you!

Though we like to have fun, we are not mainly a party hostel (even if we are having our world famous barbecue party every Saturday). Our aim is to provide a quiet and relaxed atmosphere in the hostel, so if you’d like to party after midnight, it is possible to go to the clubs and bars nearby.
