Liked: When we got to the hostel I recognised it instantly from the photos. The decor inside is very antiquated in a good way and I think it really enhanced the character of the place. The very hardworking lady who worked there didn't speak much English but she did her best to help us - she gave us a map and marked out where in Faro we were and where things like the Bus and Train stations were situated. Our room was the same as the rest of the place, old furniture and decoration but it was SO clean! Cleanliness is my big thing when staying somewhere and it was lovely in that respect. The room had free wifi, a telly with a few channels and a nice balcony. The street outside the window isn't a main road but there was a bit of noise from people shouting and motorbikes driving by during the night, although it didnt really affect our sleep that much. Good situation in the centre of Faro - easy walking distance from everywhere you want to go - short walk to bus station where you can get 20 min bus ride to the Beach (which was still amazing in mid/late sept). Worth the money for sure.

Disliked: Breakfast would've made it complete. And a kitchen would've been really helpful.

Liked: A nice decent hostel with friendly staff close to the citycenter of Faro.

Disliked: The entire hostel looks a bit dated. Though it's clean and cozy. Value for money is really nice.

Liked: Great location and good value for Faro. The owner seemed rather gruff when we first met him, but proved to be helpful.

Disliked: I had no window, but at least this meant I was away from the noise of the street. There is potentially a lot of competition for the shower and toilet for those without en suite facilities.

Liked: I arrived late and even though the owner had to wake up in the early hours he was still polite and helpful.

Disliked: My room was right next to the main reception...so I could hear convo going on outside...though it wasnt very noisy

Liked: ... it's a great little place, very close to main places in the town. The owner is very friendly and accommodating, and the place has got some character - feels like home. The only problem is you have to be very quiet at night as the landlord lives there, and have to wake him up if you come back home late night. Would definitely recommend the place :-)

Disliked: Door shut at midnight, and have to wake the owner up if come back late night. He doesn't seem to mind though!

Liked: It´s more like a hotel, for a hostel price. There are towels included in the price, and there was always hot water for me and my friends, no matter when we showered. Plus it was really clean, and there was cable TV in the rooms, and sinks. It´s also close to the port, so if you want to go to the desserted island (recommended for nice weather) that´s convienent. Location is RIGHT down the street from a Supermercado and the bus station. Plus a public-use computer with wifi. Oh, and Faro is small and not much to see here, so if it´s bad weather and you can´t go to the beach (what happened with us) then the cable TV in the rooms is especially wonderful.

Disliked: The owner was very crabby and doesn´t speak too much English, but enough. He didn´t show us anywhere good to go, but when I was upstairs waiting for the computer, he showed a couple of other groups who entered the hostel a map of Faro and the good places to go...so I don´t know why he didn´t do that for our group. There are no kitchen facilities, only microwaves and fridges, so that was a downer because we´re students and didn´t want to spend money eating out, so we just heated up some pizzas. Overall, a decent place and very good place for the price.

Liked: The hostel is quite safe--people leave stuff around dorms etc and there doesn´t seem to be a theft problem. The hammocks on the front porch are an awesome place to have a beer and watch the sun go down. And the beer can be bought onsite for €1ea.

Disliked: The bathroom was a bit on the mildewy side, and the toilet facilities aren´t too well thought out--there are 5 showers and 3 toilets for the whole hostel. Each of the 3 wet rooms has showers & a toilet, with a lock on the door. so once 1 person takes a shower & locks the door, no-one esle can use the 2nd shower or the toilet. So that´s only 3 people in the entire hostel who can use a bathroom at the same time--and I was there during Easter, when the hostel was full. Dinner is on offer for €4, but that seems to be a wide profit margin--bolied pasta with boiled (fatty) meat, with garlic & cheese mixed through, would cost next to nothing to make.

Liked: Staff was friendly. Location was good.

Disliked: It seemed a bit dirty. The kitchen was so dirty that it was unuseable. Beds were uncomfortable.

Liked: Decent Internet and an eclectic atmosphere

Disliked: Some rooms are amazing but others are depressing - the twin room we stayed in looked like something from a Ukrainian art house film. The locks were also not too solid on the doors - a bit of a safety worry

Liked: Great location. It was nice to meet some other travellers on the terrace area! The guy who runs this place was as nice and helpful as his limited English allowed (which was still much better than my extremely limited Portuguese!).

Disliked: I can only comment on the building that I was in, which was not the main building. There was a slightly run-down feel to it, but everything was clean and worked. If you're looking for value for money rather than somewhere posh I can definitely recommend this place.

Liked: The rooms are cleans, the bed is made every day. All rooms have an air conditioning. There is a fridge and a microwave you can use as you want. Internet is free, there is a wireless connection, or, if you don't have computer, you can ask the owner all the time to use internet. It's located in the center, close to the port. it's a lovely house. The owner is really nice and helpful. He even woke up at 5 AM the last night to call me a taxi !! Thanks to him. If I come back to Faro, sure I will go back to the Residential Dandy

Disliked: hen you don't have bathroom in your room, the bathroom is a bit cold

Liked: The location

Disliked: Although in a convenient location, the building is very old, the rooms musty, the doorlocks do not work and the owner does not speak English. Now, add to all these the fact that the wooden floors are all creaky and if one stays on the bottom floor, good luck with sleeping

Liked: the location was good, nice and quiet but central and easy to find. the mangaer was very helpful and friendly enough

Disliked: i went in a very quiet - low season time of the year so the whole town was deserted so its a little difficult to comment.

Liked: Good location, quiet place to stay and all our washing done (two big bags) for 5 euro.

Disliked: Not sure if we got the same staff/owner as the other people in the other reviews but the man that served us was gruff and not welcoming at all. just showed us to our room and even that seemed like a hassle! Just grunts when u ask a question but understands english fine. Bit of a let down. Ensuite bathroom a bit smelly of the mildewy kind and drainage of shower not to good.

Liked: Great location. Everything in Faro is within a few footsteps (railway, bus station, touristic harbour, restaurants, shops ....). Very clean, even the shared facilities. Big single room. Big TV with several international channels available.

Disliked: Noisy but helpful staff.
