About Posada Santa Barbara

The property hosts three buildings, spread amongst an amazing setting of nature and tranquility. Here, you can awaken to breath-taking views of the sun rising over the mystical Lake Titicaca and the snow-capped mountain chain, then to the south the Andean landscapes of vibrant green mountains, and colorful countryside fields, alive with organic cultivation.
The constructions were made following concepts of ecological Andean techniques, utilizing what mother Earth gifts to us. The majority of materials, like the building stones for example, are dug right from these same lands and were used to construct these buildings, maintaining a close-to-Earth connection. The main language spoken is spanish (also known as 'castellano'), and also widely spoken among the natives of this region is Aymara, a language originating from before the Incan times. The natives of those times called themselves '' Lupacas'', meaning 'sons of the sun' (Lupi = sun, haque = man).

Accommodation Information

At the property, stretching a nice 8000 square meters, the structure sits nearby the 'mirador' (a circular structure with grand window-like arcs), overlooking the lands and lake. Here we have 2 rooms, one with 2 full beds, and the other with 4 single beds on the second floor, and on the first floor is where the restaurant and bar are.
There is a conference room of about 120 sqm, for group meetings, reunions, etc.
There are also 7 apartment-like rooms, each with two floors, natural heating, a private bathroom with solar-heated water, all overlooking the spectacular Lake Titicaca. There is a smaller mirador just next to the structure.
We also have an Andean Sauna fueled by natural wood fires and local healing herbs.

The Santa Barbara Hostel is just two blocks from the Chucuito main plaza, next to the mirador and one block of the main church.
Chucuito is established along the shores of the sacred Lake Titicaca at approxiametly 3812 meters above sea level. Chucuito is not only a gem in itself, but also for its accessibility totravel to many other amazing towns and sites.

This historical village town is about 18 km from the city Puno and is just two to three hours from the Bolivian border.
Chucuito is central to many interesting places like Puno, Cusco, Arequipa, etc...

For here in Peru, we highly recommend:
peninsula of Chucuito, Acora and its beaches, July, Pomata, Yunguyo, the younger sister Lake Amantani, Taquile, Uros - the floating islands.

There are also many places full of archeological remains such as:
the tombs of Cutimbo, Sillustani, Aramu Muru, the Fertility Temple (in Chucuito)

Under reservations, we can enjoy excursions in private boats to the Islands of Amantani Taquille and to the Chucuito peninsula, where a different mode of life can be appreciated, … existence in total harmony with the nature and community.
