Disliked: The distribution of rooms is a little confusing as you will stay in Hotel Sol which is right next door when booking a private double or matrimonial.

Liked: The KB Tambo has an excellent location and the room was very clean. We stayed in a private triple bedroom, with private bath.

Disliked: There was no heating in the rooms, like all the other hostals we've stayed in Peru.

Liked: great locatin and great staff. They have a European guy on the front desk who is also a guide and is very knowledgeable

Disliked: They advertised WI-FI yet it only works in the reception/restaurant area. The restaurant was a little pricey but they have an AWESOME, great value restaurant right across the road (Chasqui´s which is run by a father and son).

Liked: What a delight! We had the most spectacular view, a comfortable room, a gracious welcome, and it was a bargain. This was one of the delightful little surprises of our trip to Peru.

Liked: This place was nothing short of wonderful. Rooms were spacious but cozy, tastefully decorated, and comfortably appointed. Shower was super hot with great water pressure. Breakfast was absolutely delicious, make sure to get some hot chocolate! There's a lovely courtyard and rooftop terrace to hang out in/on, the location is perfectly situated between the main square and the main ruins. Friendly staff can help you plan any tour in the area imaginable, they even have great guides written in english to explain some of the sightseeing opportunities.

Disliked: Their sign outside is difficult to read, so it can be tricky to find the place if you don't know where you're going. But really, that's it, and it's a minor thing. I'll be staying here everytime I return to Ollantaytambo and encouraging all my friends and family to do the same.

Liked: Good location a few minutes from the square and 10 mins uphill walk from the train station. Pretty gardens, room was a good size. Book of recommendations of activities in the surrounding area in our room. Great views of the ruins from the roof terrace. Hearts cafe in the plaza is awesome and just a few minutes walk.

Disliked: There is a hot tub on the roof but obviously it has been out of action for some time. 15 of us had booked into the hostel through hostelbookers but when we got there, they only had rooms for 5 of us. The others were asked to go next door to Hotel Sol. This hotel was the same price as the hostel and much better, with good showers, friendly staff and 2 for 1 pisco sours, wish our reservations were the ones that hadn´t been honoured! The staff´s attitudes at KB Tambo were not particularly friendly, they weren´t bothered that they couldn´t honour the reservations. The two ladies there when we arrived spoke pretty poor English and at one point one of the staff pretended she couldn´t speak English when she had spoken English just a few minutes before with another member of our group! There were ants in our ground floor garden room, when we mentioned these to the owner, he said he would get some ant poison but there was no offer of anything else, eg a drink or anything for the inconvenience and it was very, very obvious that he already knew about the ants, which pretty much left a nasty taste that I was being lied to. Beds were certainly not the comfiest in town as claimed and I was not convinced the bed linen and towels were totally clean. There was a recommendation in the hostel guidebook to sit on their roof terrace with a drink, but there was no offer of a drink from the hotel staff who seemingly couldn´t be bothered with us being there. Security left a bit to be imagined, when we got back to the hostel, the staff had put a chair behind the door to stop people coming in. The room was pretty cold at night, the bathroom needs some work and there was no hot water on the day we arrived.

Liked: The location was fantastic. Right in the middle of the village and only a 10 minute walk from the train station. Our room was set off from the garden, which was beautiful. There is also a terrace on the top of the building that offered great views of the Ollyatambo ruins.

Disliked: We had tons of tiny ants crawling around in our bathroom. The shower leaked and hot water was spotty. The beds were comfortable, but the bathroom could stand some work. It's mega cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for. Staff wasn't the friendliest either. I had asked to have our room key kept behind the counter when we were away and I got an attitude for it. Excuse me for not wanting just anyone to have the ability to grab my room key and go through my belongings. Didn't feel secure with the key at arms reach for anyone who walked in.

Liked: Roof top terrace was lovely with great views of the ruins. The Mexican restaurant across the road serves great food - enormous portions.

Disliked: Very comfortable rooms, except the "large" double bed wasn't large at all so we had to ask to swap to twin rooms - fortunately they were able to assist us in that regard.

Liked: The location, the level of maintenance, hot water with good pressure and available all the time and first and foremost - the views! wow

Disliked: A TV lounge could be a good idea to watch movies, relax and socialise after a day of sightseeing. Also, would be a good idea to maybe put heaters in the rooms as they can get a bit cold at night.

Liked: Great place to stay, room big and good sized bathroom with the best shower had so far! Smelt and was really clean. Had a lovely garden at the back, and if you grab the key, you can pop onto the terrace where you can enjoy views across the main sites. Lounge area which is comfy and has wifi. Staff really friendly and helpful, we wish we stayed longer as actually there was more to do there than we thought. The guys can help sort mountain biking out too which would have been a laugh. Also just some advice on location, if you come from the train station, when you get to the top of the road (T junction) the hostel is just to the right. Coming from the local bus service, aim for the main ruins and its just before the bridge on the right.

Liked: Gorgeous town, stunning views, super cool owner (who arranges the most amazing bike trips), and the hostel is the cherry on top. I'd move in if KB would let me.

Disliked: Little disappointed that the restaurant wasn't up and running, but it hardly mattered, as there are literally dozens of great places to eat within two-minutes walking distance.
