The hostel is named after the sacred peak Mama Simona – the only female mountain deity among twelve others surrounding Cusco. Mama Simona Hostel is like a good conversation over a cup of coca tea rather than a wild party; a comfortable and welcoming refuge away from the standard “just-another-hostel” kind of place; simple wooden furniture and lots of room rather than cramped kitschy interiors. Staying with Mama Simona is like being invited into the warmth of a Peruvian home. Read more

Among other things, a large supermarket, cheap laundry service and the famous San Pedro Market are just around the corner. The area is bursting with colonial mansions and streets, temples built on Inca foundations, and local foods. Dedicated walkers can get to the magnificent fortress of Saqsayhuaman in about 25-30 minutes, whereas dedicated taxi riders can reach it in 10. Three to four hours by bus and/or by train will get you to Aguas Calientes – the immediate premises of Machu Picchu.
