It is a place a little bit expensive but Oslo is like that. The staff was very helpful.

I really liked the location of this hostel. The room was good and quite spacious. Breakfast was ok. Staff friendly and helpful. Would stay here again if I could afford to come back to Oslo!!

The location and the breakfast were the best things about this place. Cleanliness was not one of them. There was hair on my pillow and everybody else's in my room,clear sign that none of the sheets on the beds had been changed and after one hour of notifying the reception no one came up to change it. The bathroom was not very clean either. For the price paid that was simply disgusting. For the same price in London you can get a private room!

Terrific Hostel with hotel like facilities. Was impressed. Had to ieave early for a train and was even given a breakfast package!! Wonderful place and would definitely stay here again!

Eventhough Perminalen Hostel is not the place to be when you want to be in cosey, homelike surroundings, it is right in the middle of the citycenter. All the good places (such as public transport, tourist attractions, shops, restaurants and pubs) are just around the corner.

Stayed at Perminalen Oct.22-24... definitely a GREAT choice! The location is by far the best aspect to staying at Perminalen, only around a 10 minute walk to many of Oslo's most famous sites--Akershus fortress, Opera House, Royal Palace, National Gallery, etc. It's a little pricey (accomodations are fine, but nothing spectacular) but still a good deal for Norway! Also, the breakfast in the morning is a real breakfast, not the typical piece of bread and watered down coffee you get at most hostels/hotels.

This place is in a great location - just near the harbour, and only a few minutes' walk away from the main shopping street, too. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from here to the train/bus station. The rooms were nice and clean - I stayed in a 4 person dorm. The room was large enough, and had tables, a TV, and its own (nice!) bathroom ensuite. Breakfast is provided (they have bread, cereal, juice and boiled eggs), which was a plus. The staff were very nice and friendly. It felt like a safe part of town, and late at night, you need to show a card to get in, so that people can't just wander in. I found it a little expensive for a shared dorm but there are very few places in Oslo that are any cheaper, and it did feel more upmarket than a regular hostel. The lonely planet blurb about this place says that this is a place where military stay when they're in town, which made me hesitant to book at first as I didn't know if it would be tourist-friendly. However, everybody else I met there were tourists too (maybe it's a seasonal thing), and it felt just like a regular hotel/hostel. Overall, great location, friendly and helpful staff, elevators, and clean rooms with nice bathrooms! I'm told there is also luggage storage for after checking out, but I didn't use it. I would definitely recommend this place!

It's expensive, but it's a hint about the city's cost... Everything is SO expensive here. Be prepared to spend alot. Hostel is a 5 minute walk from the center, about 10 to the train station. I think it's well placed.
