Staff
Our staff are totally committed to ensuring you have the best time possible in Derry. They are all backpackers who have fallen in love with this great city and will do their utmost to see that you love it too. Everything from taking you out to the pub to doing your laundry.
Welcome
From the very start the 'Steves Backpackers' team have justifiably earned the reputation as being some of the friendliest staff in any hostel around. You can be sure that you will receive the best welcome possible. You will be welcomed with tea or coffee and a smile. We will then provide you with a free map and show you all the hotspots, ie murals, pubs, city walls etc. (everything is literally around the corner from us.) Location! Location! Location!
Free stuff
Free tea and coffee comes as standard in most hostels in the North of Ireland, we offer that gladly.
However, being travelers ourselves we realized the advantage of free broadband internet many years ago and we were the first hostel in Ireland to offer this facility. Since then a couple of others have copied us, but not many!
Free breakfast for us has always been another standard - we realize the hassle of carrying a pint of milk and a spoonful of sugar in your backpack.
Our world famous "all you can eat barbeques"
Most nights during summer we offer 'all you can eat' barbeques (burgers, sausages, chicken wings, veggie burgers, bread, sauces, etc).
Cost is just 2 pounds and of course the craic is mighty. These usually lead onto our organized pub crawls. Fun. Fun. Fun.

Most nights a member of staff will round up those who are interested and take them out on a rollicking Irish pub crawl.
We usually head for the pubs offering the best cheap drinks promotions, then head onto the live music pubs or clubs. This is a great way to get out and meet the locals. Derry people are renowned for being very friendly and this is a great way to meet them or hang out with other backpackers.
Free Derry Tours
Every day organized tours of the Bogside, run by the acclaimed Free Derry Tours, leave from our hostel. These are tours conducted by local people from the Bog side, giving you a unique first-hand insight into the sad events of Bloody Sunday, the Battle of the Bogside, the many political murals and life in Derry during the troubles.

Aladdin’s cave...........
Over the last few years we traveled to many exotic places, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey , Morocco, Syria, Egypt, to name but a few, and from these travels we have brought back lots of bits and pieces to decorate our hostels.. We have transformed our dining room into a an Indian-style dining room, a virtual Aladdin’s Cave with low tables and low seats, lots of beautiful hangings, and many amazing artifacts scattered around the room. You will be transported to another time and another place.
This after all, if you are a traveler is where you want to be.
So where do you want to be?
Come and stay with us and you will fall in love with Derry.

Importantly, our hostels are Northern Ireland Tourist Board approved hostels and also the only I.H.H members in Derry. So you can be sure that we are not the only people who think we have a great hostel. A lot of other people think so too.
