Liked: I thought this place was amazing. There's so much to do I wish I'd stayed longer. It was pretty clean and very spacious. The staff were really cool too. Saved me about $100 on the tours I wanted to do.

Disliked: It was a little noisy at night but it was just rude guests.

Liked: The only good thing about this hostel was the staff. I honestly don't understand how it's been rated so highly.

Disliked: Where do I start? The facilities were bad, probably the worst I've had in six weeks of backpacking around New Zealand. The common area/tv lounge was basically two couches and a tv set up in the hallway between rooms, and the high ceilings and lack of soundproofing meant you could easily hear the tv, which was usually on till midnight. In the evening, most people were forced to sit on the floor if they didn't want to hang out in their rooms, as there wasn't enough seating for more than six people. We could hear every single squeaky door banging shut all night. We could also hear the conversations of people in the rooms next to us so clearly that we could have held a conversation with them through the wall. It was definitely the loudest hostel I've stayed in, and that's including one I stayed in that was above a bar! The kitchen wasn't great either, as it didn't have an oven (or even toaster oven). And no recycling facilities! WTF! We're in New Zealand, by the way, Crank. The free tea and coffee is only available in reception which means you have to leave the hostel to get it (the reception is in a separate part of the building) and can't get it after 10pm. The hostel is licenced, which means they forbid you from bringing in and drinking your own alcohol, so you are forced to buy theirs.There was only one toilet stall on our floor (one actual toilet for 6 dorm rooms). None on the floor above us, and only three on the floor below.

Liked: Staff very friendly and know the surrounding area extremely well. Great discounts on local attractions.

Disliked: Quite noisy late evening, but just inconsiderate guests!

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: You have to pay in addition to get wifi !!! You cannot bring alcohol from outside (and you cannot drink in the street), so it is hard to try the very famous NZ wine, it is so sad to go there and not be able to taste the wine... The coffee is far from the kitchen, really not convenient Unisex bathroom...

Liked: The staff was nice and helpfull. Also the cimbingwall was nice. Location is in the middel of town, close to everything.

Disliked: The whole building has very little windows, this makes it not that nice a place to stay. Because it's so big every sounds echo's. When you have a room close to the tv, you will not be able to sleep.

Liked: The free lockers and the fact the dorms locked. The staff were helpful and friendly. Cheap internet with webcams and mics. If you wanted to arrange any exertions it was made easy and sometimes cheaper.

Disliked: There wasn't much social activity when I was there.

Liked: Large facilities capable with coping with lots of people. not cramped, cheap wine, central location and helpful and friendly staff

Disliked: The toilets were well below par with only actual toilet for all people on one level plus no soap to wash your hands it was a bit under par.

Disliked: Not enough lockers in dorms. No special atmosphere.

Liked: Free WiFi. The hostel was very clean. It was nice to have lockers big enough for your whole bag. The staff were very helpful. The kitchen was very big and clean.

Disliked: The rooms are a little small. It would have been nice to have female only bathrooms.
