Liked: YHA Paihia is a quiet and quaint hostel at the end of Kings Rd which is the main road for hostels. It has a very nice and clean hostel (one of the only hostels I stayed at that did not have wet dish towels always hanging in the kitchen, regardless of the fact that it was fully booked when I stayed there). While the kitchen was on the small side, it was workable and had free and ample amounts of spices including sugar. It was a quieter hostel with a nice enclosed area outside for dining as well as tables and chairs not enclosed. Several cons about the YHA: it did not have a swimming pool like its neighbouring hostel although it is a short walk to the beach. In addition, the bunk room I stayed in, while maximizing its space, has its bunks very close (the top one is about a foot off the bottom bed although only on the lower half of the bed ie. only your legs and feet are covered by the top bunk). Unless you are claustrophobic, it really should not affect you that much.

Liked: This yha is a really nice one. The people that run it are very friendly and helpful, being able to answer all our questions! The hostel is very clean and it was a great location, especially if you want to do any cruises, maori tours or go to cape reinga. Would definately stay there again.

Liked: One of the best YHA`s we have stayed at. Great location but far away enough to not be noisy. Very friendly staff and the place is kept spotlessly clean. All in all a really good few days.

Liked: Really helpful and friendly staff. They were great about telling us about things that was going on in the area and what was worth seeing and doing. The rooms and kitchen were really clean. Only a walk along the street to some really good bars too.
