Rongo Backpackers is located in Karamea, the Northern most town on New Zealands' West Coast. Driving North through the sleepy fields of Market Cross or heading south bound after the breath-taking natural splendor of the Heaphy track this Rainbow painted building leaps out from the undergrowth like a kaleidoscopic dinosaur and draws the unsuspecting traveler into a world of unlimited relaxation and fun.

Rongo offers a range of accommodation from comfortable dorm's to luxurious double rooms. A fully equipped kitchen, laundry, hot showers and wireless internet access complete the picture of a top quality hostel, leaving you free to discover what makes us unique in the world of backpackers...

A library of strange books, piano's scattered throughout the premises, a large garden full of surprises, organic vegetable gardens and a towering stand of exotic cacti, a fire bath to ease away those aches and pains, a staff of volunteers from all around the globe, and nestled in the back garden a large screen cinema and our very own Radio Station!

You'll be amazed at how much there is to do in Karamea! , to whet your appetite for adventure there is a multitude of short and long walks (including the limestone arches and caves of the Oparara Basin), prime fishing and outdoor activities. In the township you'll get to meet the colorful locals, visit the amazing Global Gypsy art gallery and enjoy the musicians who frequently visit.
