Liked: Nice comfortable accommodation and lounge area with open fire. Has all the facilities you need for hostel accommodation. Near the town centre so no need to drive anywhere. Would definitely stay there again.

Liked: Really friendly staff Free tea/coffee/hot chocolate, milk, ice cream and fruit Can buy discounted hot pool entry pass at hostel They have a shuttle bus running between Kaikoura and Hanmer Springs - discount price if you are staying at Hanmer Backpackers

Liked: Very friendly and helpful owner who is knowledgeable both about Hanmer area and other places in NZ. Homely, cosy hostel and very clean, well-equipped spotless kitchen. Free fruit and ice cream, as well as the usual hot drinks and herbs/ spices. Friendly resident cat.

Disliked: It's small so you do hear your fellow guests moving around which is not ideal at 7am! Bed a bit too soft
