Liked: Amazing decor and facilities as well as free kayaks and bicycle use.... Selection of movies in a very cool TV area on a rainy day helps and kitchen is top notch. Seriously one of the best hostels I have stayed in

Disliked: only that the rooms on the ground floor hear people walking on the top floor quite easily and loudly....but a small price to pay.

Liked: The atmosphere is great, everything is properly cleaned and the showers and beds are a treat.

Disliked: Greymouth itself isn't that interesting, though this place makes up for that. Expect to stay an extra night (or more).

Liked: Fabulous hostel - decor very interesting. Kitchen clean and welcoming. Free range eggs for sale for breakfast - Great. Rooms were lovely. Staff very friendly . Got picked up and dropped off at railway station. However Greymouth well deserves its name - nothing there !!

Liked: Really helpful staff who were always willing to help out with tips of what to do around town. Clean rooms, good kitchen and great feeling about the place.

Disliked: A bit of a hike out of town from the train station, but totally worth it. Also heard that Atomic Shuttles will drop you at the door, so might be worth going with them if using public transport.

Liked: Friendly reception, roomy comfortable accommodation that was thoughtfully decorated, had a number of different social areas and a very well set up kitchen ~ could have stayed longer.

Disliked: No free Internet (in fairness, this is typical of NZ) and location slightly away from the centre (but pick up etc offered).

Liked: Real helpful staff , even baked cakes for you! Extremely clean with comfortable beds and a real warm lounge area to relax in . would definitely recommend this place , a must for anyone stopping in Greymouth!

Liked: Brilliant atmosphere, beautifully decorated and organised, clean, great facilities, very friendly staff. It is the little extras that make some places special, and Global Village Backpackers definately have those- I was only staying for one night, but was made very welcome, and offered a lift to the train station the next day before unpacking my bag after the walk there! Also was able to relax, have a cup of tea and read my book after checking out in the morning to await the aforementioned lift to the station. Good kitchen too!

Disliked: Nothing really! Located a tiny bit outside of the main town (only 1-1.5km)- but I liked this! Right on the river too!

Liked: Really lovely hostel, one of the best we have stayed in. We stayed in a double room which was lovely and clean. The communal areas are really nice, lots of nice art and sculptures, which makes it feel really homely. The kitchen was really good with lots of space and it was cleaned thoroughly every day, as were the toilets and showers. Male and female bathrooms being separate, this was a nice touch. Free bicycle hire and canoe hire, we used the bikes which were well maintained and we borrowed helmets too. Really friendly and helpful staff! A brilliant hostel - that made a wet and windy stay in Greymouth pleasurable.

Liked: We really liked this hostel. It was one of the best we visited in NZ. We received a really good welcome and were given ideas about what we could do with our time. Great themed hostel which is well managed. Very clean, good facilities, very comfortable, lots of room and very friendly. It is a little out of town, but as such it appeared to attract customers who weren't particularly party animals but those who enjoyed a quite evening in, relaxing, chatting, m aking new friends or reading a good novel. The supermarket is a few blocks away and there is a superb swimming pool 200m away.

Liked: Global Vilage is gorgeous! While not much to look at on the outside, the inside is wonderful! The owners clearly spent a lot of time and effort in creating a unique atmosphere. They even sell a variety of cultural souvenirs - I was tempted to send a didgeridoo home! The kayak and bicycle hire is so convenient and definitely helpful, considering Global Vilage is such a stretch from main Greymouth. Their kitchen is great - dishes are beautiful AND they match - and fresh eggs from their chickens are for sale at 40c each! I was VERY impressed; I wish I could have stayed more than a night.
