French Kainga-ra YHA is nestled amongst the bush-clad hills overlooking the township of Greymouth. On the side of a steep hill, the hostel boasts fantastic views of the mouth of the river and the sea. You can even catch a glimpse of Mount Cook or the Hector Dolphins from the nearby wild beaches.

The old chapel has been converted into a fun mixed bedroom and the study into the lounge. Feel free to play the piano or guitar, dive into one of the comfy sofas and enjoy one of the many books or magazines available in the extensive hostel library. Catch up with your favorite video in our cozy T.V. room.

YHA New Zealand is a non-profit membership organization. Non-members pay an additional NZ$3 per person per night. For more information, please visit our website on www.yha.co.nz.

Greymouth offers a palette of West Coast experiences. Take part in some of the most challenging white water rafting, caving, fly-fishing, quad biking and backcountry tramping. Greymouth is the perfect base to visit the Pancake Rocks, the historic Shantytown for some gold panning experience or indulge in a tour of the Monteith’s Brewery. Fossick for jade (pounamu) on the beach or carve your own piece at the local studio.
