Liked: very nice atmosphere, nice free soup every evening, clean facilities and dorms, perfect location

Liked: Cosy and free soup in the evenings. Good space and lounge and dining areas are very homely.

Disliked: Having all cooking facilities within the four bed dorms is a positive and negative. Advertised a Spa but it looks like it had been out of order for some months.Bathrooms are not the best nor private (sliding doors are mediocre)

Liked: Nearness to town and friendliness of staff.

Disliked: The hot water tap in the bathroom was difficult to turn off and it would be nice if a teapot was supplied in the room.

Liked: very good location

Disliked: the rooms are far too open - anyone can see straight into your room from the car park because of the patio doors on the front so the only way to avoid this is to keep the curtains closed which you don't really want to do during the day. Also it the room didn't smell very clean. During the 2 weeks I travelled around NZ I stayed in about 7 other places for the same price and I would rate this the worse value for money. The said it may have a lot to do with the fact Franz Josef is smaller so they can charge a higher premium.
