‘The New Excelsior Backpackers’ provides a relaxing and central place to stay. Close to bars, restaurants and attractions, we offer a full travel desk, a great range of facilities, 24 hr check-in and friendly staff.

The popular New Excelsior Backpacker is located in an enchanting historic building right in the heart of Christchurch’s new urban hub SOL square and Poplar Lane. This hostel offers an exceptionally warm and friendly environment with all the benefits of an inner-city location. It is nestled amongst popular bars, cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping, and is only minutes walk to Cathedral Square, the arts centre, museum and art gallery, public transportation, movie theatres and supermarkets.

All our spotlessly clean rooms are non-smoking. We offer dorm rooms for 2-8 people, double, single and twin rooms. Prices range from $20.00 per person, per night. 24-hour check-in can be arranged upon demand, and guests have 24-hour key access to the hostel.
We are small enough to provide a relaxing and comfortable stay, yet large enough to boast some great facilities.

The New Excelsior has a large kitchen and dining room, and a comfortable lounge room with a big screen tv, free DVDs. We offer a guest laundry, secure bike lock-up, and book exchange, 24-hr Internet access, Wifi, skype, webcam and free luggage storage. Free barbeque available for use on our large outdoor sun deck – perfect for socialising! Free shuttle to the train station daily.

To the left of the building we have SOL square www.sol.net.nz and to the right Poplar Lane and of course straight ahead all the pubs and clubs of Manchester st. to spice up your evenings.
