Liked: I really liked that it was actually old cottage- like!

Liked: It was clean, modern, super staff!

Disliked: It wasn't in the city center, but you could also see that as a good thing since the city center isn't that nice anymore.

Disliked: No lockers or reading lamps in the dorms. It was pretty hard getting up early without waking the others in the room.

Liked: Seemed homely, good sized kitchen open all hours also.

Disliked: Was only there for a few hours due to late flight and starting early for a tour.

Liked: It's a beautiful property and very spacious, with a lot to offer guests.

Disliked: Mixed gender dorms are not something I was expecting, and I'm not thrilled with them. With as many rooms as they have, I hoped they could have split them into men and women.

Liked: The public laundry area was large & user-friendly and they had an outside clothesline.

Disliked: The neighbourhood seemed a bit scary as a solo female traveller.

Liked: Friendly and helpful staff. Tea bags available in kitchen.

Disliked: Long term residents working on the reconstruction of the centre were staying in the hostel and seemed to have a different attitude to washing up than most other residents in other back packers we stayed in, i.e. they did not do their washing up. Very few mugs in the kitchen so I never found one to use, and always had to wash one up to make my cup of tea.

Liked: The room was clean, tidy and reasonably spacious. The lady on reception gave us a good tip for dinner in the evening. The location is very good, given the damage that has been done to Christchurch.

Disliked: A private function was taking place in the venue on the night that we stayed. That meant that there were a lot of loud people (we found one person rolling drunk on the floor outside our bedroom door) around late into the evening. It also meant (or at the very least appeared to mean) that we were restricted to fewer facilities than we would otherwise have had access to, as the party had some of the communal areas booked up. As the office closes at 8 or 9pm (I forget which), there were no staff to talk to about this.

Liked: Location. Also, Megan is lovely!

Disliked: Not secure at all. No key cards, instead they had normal keys so everyone left the doors open because they're too lazy to unlock doors. Also the windows were wide open at all hours, and being on the ground floor meant people climbed in and out the windows. Even the luggage room has just a latch on the door. Not secure at all. Also, the English cleaner who wears the same red track pants every day (I think his name is Chris?) has a SERIOUS attitude problem.

Liked: The staff is great - always made sure that I am having a good time in Christchurch. I had a blast, thanks to them, despite of limited activities in Christchurch.

Disliked: Bad experience - a guy came in at 3am, waking me up. He was "having fun"and left at 5am. Seriously, they would put anyone in your room! [of course, i am sure that the hostel did not perceive this to happen].

Liked: Great beds, especially the mattresses! Stable, big beds.

Disliked: TV Lounge room is a little small, so it fills up quite fast in the evening. No lockers at all!

Liked: I traveled for nine months and I've seen a lot of hostels. Mostly the beds were fine, but never that good, big, comfortable, clean and quiet as in this hostel. Mostly the kitchens were oke, but never that good, clean, well equipped and spacious as in this hostel. Some hostels had a pool and sauna, but never a pool and sauna like in this hostel. Very luxury and for free! The hostel consists out of three separate big wooden houses and they are full of very clean toilets and bathrooms. Nice lounges, free Wi-fi. Amazing big garden in between the houses. Makes you totally forget you're in a (destroyed) city. Also excellent travel-info and booking service of the friendly staff. It felt like 'home' and makes you feel homesick when you leave. Shorter version: The BEST hostel I've ever stayed at! :)

Disliked: No lockers, but there is the possibility to put valuables in the save at reception.

Liked: Spacious rooms. Good size beds in dorms. New clean showers. Spa and sauna are good bonus (although didn't use them). Kitchen more than adequate very spacious.

Disliked: Ack of power points in rooms (by one bunk bed only) Although extension leads were in room. Computers didn't have skype

Liked: Very clean, good showers.

Disliked: The bed I was allocated had springs coming out of the mattress. It was clearly ready for the bin yet the maid had made it up ready to be slept in. I did not discover this until I went to bed a 10, long after the staff had gone home.

Liked: Very welcoming receptionists. Easy to find your way round the hostel. Like a big house to relax round. Great place to start or end to wind down your travels round NZ. Facilities are very good and having a sauna and jacuzzi are a very nice luxury. Owners have really got a good thing going. Would definately stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting Christchurch. P.s just booked to stay again Friday! Haha

Disliked: Keys on bedrooms maybe....but apart from that absolutely amazing place!
