Liked: Best hostel we have stayed in in New Zealand. Besides the jail conversion being well done and fun, it is also well run, efficient, very clean and easy to relax in and find your own space. All the Internet machines were macs, there's a tv room and a cinema room. Wireless is cheap if you do the daily rate. We had a cell with a bunk in it - despite being a real cell, it was more spacious than other twin rooms with bunks we'd stayed in.

Liked: A fantastic hostel to stay in. Not only full of character and novelty, but the facilities on offer are really good. Guests can make free use of the TV room, movie room (free DVD's available in-house), board games, book swap. There is also tea/coffee available from reception. There are even cells that have been kept in their original state or converted into museum style display rooms.

Disliked: Not a criticism of the hostel itself, but Christchurch is obviously still recovering from the earthquake(s) of 2011 so there is a limited amount of things to do. Once the city redevelopment gets under way though this hostel really is THE place to stay!

Disliked: a little too cold, too expensive and far away from everything. but worth it!

Liked: Unique esperience in Jail! Frendly staff and nice common area!

Disliked: no heating in our rooms, a little bit far away from city center and no bus to get there. No free wi-fi

Liked: The best hostel we have stayed at on our whole 5 months trip!! I recommend this hostel highly!! so friendly great kitchen and great rooms!! Really cool layoutsleeping in a cell!! Definetly stay at this hostel!! its amazing!!!!

Liked: The character of this place is something to remember. A brilliant idea to turn an old prison into a hostel. The standards are very high for a hostel: very clean place, peaceful, friendly helpful staff... All in all, a very nice and different experience. Congratulations to people running it and a wish and hope to continue the good work!

Disliked: We had a car so the access was very easy. Otherwise it's quite far from the city centre.

Liked: Very special hostel, friendly staff & as a special you can dress up as prisoner to take pictures - when I come back to Christchurch I'll definitely stay there again.

Liked: what an amazing building. cinema was great. really friendly staff. good value for money. very clean. would recommend for a few nights.

Disliked: bit of a walk out of town but its through a park so not really that bad. computers could use an update but work fine.

Liked: I loved the design of the place, it's in an interesting part of town and it's great to have a communal kitchen where everyone is so respectful of cleanliness and other people's stuff. 5min bus ride from the town centre too (or an easy walk)

Disliked: No onsite activities or a bar, very motivating to go into town to hang out and meet locals (which was super fun!)

Liked: I loved that this property used to be a jail. It has character and although the cells are very small, it makes it quite cozy. I love that you can borrow dvd's from them. That was a nice touch.

Disliked: I did not like the location of this property. I didn't feel very safe at night and there wasn't anything great in the area as far as restaurants,etc.

Liked: The uniqueness of the hostel is what I came to see, they have history about the Prison in the forms of books and cabinets with Memobillia, the staff are knowledgable and had a great stay with the funky mugshot to top it all off........

Liked: Such an cool place to experience. Real jail cells are a hit. Extremely different but very clean and new!!

Disliked: The location is a bit far from the main drag, but the bus stop is just outside and it is an original jail so it's location is fine.
