Lauren Burns thinks…
"Staying here was a wonderful experience, it was more like staying with a friend than staying in a hostel. They do "family dinner" and everyone participates."Read all Fat Cat Travellers Community reviews

About Fat Cat Travellers Community
Dinner and breakfast each day is included for you free. Each day we share a big meal together and it’s a wonderful opportunity to meet everyone. Most nights we also light a campfire and share stories, experiences, great conversations and music. We cultivate a peaceful environment where the focus is on learning and sharing.
You are very welcome to join in and spend time in the organic garden, learning with the garden team, or making delicious food with the chef in the kitchen – but the choice is yours – the gardens are also beautiful for relaxing, doing yoga or reading if that’s what you need :)
We have a large library full of books about organic gardening, composting, urban sustainable living and we regularly hold movie nights with an environmental or social focus. We also run skill sharing sessions, and if you have a skill you would like to share with everyone else we would love for you to show us – perhaps you can teach us yoga, or jewellery making, how to play the guitar or salsa – we would love to learn :)
Our 2 hectare farm is right next to the Waitakere Ranges National Park, with many beautiful hiking options and Piha Surf Beach is only 20 minutes away. In fact we are closer to the national park and the beach than we are to the city centre – and we really appreciate that! Our life is busy with gardens, trees and birds and we are not busy with concrete, buildings and traffic :)
We are all travelers living here, most on working holiday visas and a lot of our volunteers are part of the wwoofing program. We love that we intentionally create a beautiful community and a travellers home where we value organic farming, ecological & sustainable lifestyles, sharing resources, learning, peaceful environment, community living and friendship.
If you are an adventurous traveller, looking for a deeper connection and you love eco projects and sustainable living – welcome to our eco paradise! You will love, and be inspired by our place :)
We look forward to meeting you and sharing a delicious home cooked meal :)
Fat Cat Eco Backpackers has the following accommodation types:
Each has large windows and view of our sunny organic garden. All linen provided :)
Private Double Room:
Private room with garden views and all day long sunlight.
Bring your own tent, we have a dedicated space for camping.
We also have cosy private garden caravans for up to two people.
We are tucked out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the city centre – truly a great place for relaxing and unwinding!
Fat Cat Eco-Backpackers is only a 600m walk to the train station, where you can catch a 30min ride straight to the city centre. Trains run several times per hour. We are seven minutes' bike ride from Henderson, which is full of shops, cafes, movies, banks and a post office.
We are also located only 25mins away from the popular surf beach of Piha (closer than any other Auckland hostel!) and only 10mins away from the spectacular and incredible Waitakere Ranges National Park where you can trek for a day or even a whole week!
So if you would like to come and join in our wonderful community and share your time with other wonderful travellers and students then we happily welcome you! You can book online, or just drop us an email or a text :)
