Liked: The hostel was really homely and the staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful recommending great spots in the area and saving us a fair bit of money. Great place.

Disliked: It doesn't look so good like in the pictures. Our room was too small.

Liked: The hostel has a lot a character and it is very laid back and comfortable. The staff are superb and my overall experience was delightful! :)

Disliked: Nothing bad to say at all.

Liked: great staff, nice in and outdoor common areas, clean, central.

Disliked: not much, but if i was to give a suggestion free tea and coffee is always a nice touch!

Liked: The friendly nature and hospitality of the management team made our stay at The Ponsonby Backpackers most enjoyable. Ideally located away from the noisy city center but within comfortable walking distance to all of Auckland's major sites. The rooms were clean and the facilities were great; the kitchen was superbly organised and equipped giving us the ability to make good meals despite being away from home. The staff were always friendly and took an interest in what were doing offering us advice and a helping hand. We would not hesitate to book with them again.

Disliked: Nothing, it was great!

Liked: Great friendly hostel with cosy rooms, clean kitchen and good living spaces. The staff were fantastic - helping me plan my trip around NZ, and have lots of experience of travelling in NZ. Ponsonby is a lovely location, quiet neighbourhood but easy walk into town.

Liked: Location, staff were chatty and people staying there seemed friendly. Decent kitchen and things were as clean. Furnishings are a bit dated but wouldn't put me off.

Liked: * central location * nice people * big kitchen * staff is helpful and honest * low prices

Disliked: * too many people for my taste * building old and not well-kept * internet is unaffordable (seriously, how many megabytes do YOU get for 10ct? 200-500? Why do you give us only ONE megabyte for 10ct?) * No safe in private rooms, but anyone could break into them easily. * Location is on top of a hill while the supermarket is deep below.

Liked: staff very friendly. good sized kitchen good showers nice garden and communal areas kitchen locked at night not too noisy

Disliked: At the top of a steep hill but there are many hills in auckland so its difficult to get away from them. Had to pay for internet and computer use our twin room was bunk beds

Liked: I loved the Victorian house and the staff was VERY FRIENDLY and HELPFUL! Ponsonby was easy to get to via Link bus and it was so close to all the shops and cafes on Ponsonby Street. The One 2 One cafe has live music on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. They also had activities for stayers to meet each other such as "pizza night."

Disliked: Small bathrooms.

Liked: More of a homely feel rather than a hostel. John on reception is genuinely heplful an interested in you and your travels, the hostel it's self is very clean and very social while at the sametime being respectful and considerate to others staying there. The area Ponsonby is great as well, heaps of good eats and just a small walk to the city centre. A++ Highly recommend

Liked: Ponsonby Backpackers is perfectly situated in Auckland with all the night life activity of Ponsonby around the corner and the supermarket down the road and the marina/Viaduct area a 20-30 min. walk away from the hostel. Moreover, special deals on activities can be booked by the very friendly and helpful staff/operators. All of the facilities are kept very clean, WiFi is available and the single room I had booked had enough space for luggage and clothes storage. The bed was quite comfy as well and the noise level at night was also enjoyably low.

Disliked: Free internet for guests (e.g. 15 MB per night) would have been amazing but otherwise there is hardly any room for improvement in my opinion and I can highly recommend staying at Ponsonby Backpackers when in Auckland, I know I will try to do so the next time I manage to travel to Auckland.

Liked: The staff were so friendly! And I loved that they have a landline for guests to use. Oh, and the kitchen was so well-equipped with everything you could think of!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Liked: Clean and comfotable. Never a queue for the showers/toilet. Room in the fridges, good kitchen facilities. Helpful staff. Short walk to Link bus into Auckland CBD, short walk to shops. I stayed twice and would stay again.

Disliked: Uphill walk from nearest supermarket to hostel. Most people there were long-termers and all knew each other so it wasn't friendly and wouldn't be a good place to meet other people.

Liked: Laundry, big kitchen, location was awesome.

Disliked: Needed 2 keys to get to our room because it was through the kitchen which was a bit of a pain, but i guess better than having a party in the kitchen all night right by the room. Reception didn't open until 8am, so we missed our tour at the Waitomo caves as we had to wait to get our key deposit back.

Liked: The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful! It felt like going into someone's home - in a good way! Also, the location in Ponsonby was FABULOUS!

Disliked: The room (off the dining area) was very noisy and to get in or out during open hours of the dining room I had to continually ask people to get up from their seats. Also, there are only 2 showers and 3 toilets available for all of the women in the house, 1 of which is shared with men outside the main house.
