Liked: Location

Disliked: It is a shithole. Dirtiest hostel I visited. If you want to drink at their bar and party hard all nite with the kiwi experience 18 year olds stay here. If you are an actual traveler, stay somewhere else. There is a room on the sixth floor that has a condom wrapped around the fire alarm that has been there for 8 months. I know because I met someone in raglan who stayed in the same room 8 months ago. The laundry machines either don't work, are full, or have a line. This was the worst hostel I visited in new Zealand.

Liked: Good central location. Helpful, friendly staff. Lockers under the bed in room. Comfy, decent sized beds.

Disliked: Too big and impersonal - not much character. Showers aren't very good. Not especially clean, but adequate.

Liked: It was in a great location! The fridge in the room was a great convenience as the kitchen was very busy. Having the lockers under the bed was a great security feature! More places should have that!!!!

Disliked: The water taps in the shower didn't allow you to change the temperature even though I tried. It was cold one day and scolding hot the next. Also didn't like being told that the wireless internet worked all over the hostel by the same person even though 2 of us complained that it didn't work in our room. Also people were very noisy out in the hallway, and not everyone likes 3am wake up calls.

Liked: Good location, good atmosphere lots of friendly people and plenty of info. Common areas good. Nice and cheap. Staff friendly. Great bar next door, good value for those on a budget.

Disliked: Cleanliness v poor - don't know when my dorm was last vacuumed, old toenail clippings and everything! Yuck! SHowers could have been cleaner but not too bad, although only one had a lock on the door! I booked into a 4 bed dorm and was the only female on a room full of guys. Fortunately they were friendly, but could have been v intimmidating. At least split the sexes 50/50 in a 4 bed.

Liked: Good location to meet other travelers

Disliked: -partially unfriendly and lying staff -offering rooms without windows and water dropping from the ceiling into the beds (saw it two times myself and got to know from other travelers that the same beds were tried to be given to several other guys by the staff, you had to complain after receiving the bed, but they still tried to give it to others). -during the booking for an extended stay to March 7th, staff promised me that they will offer me a place to dry my tent but they never had a place for doing that

Liked: I was charged less than the quoted price on hostelbookers. Staff were friendly enough.

Disliked: The lifts continually malfunctioned and you could be carried up and down for several minutes before it stopped on your floor. The stairs were not an option as they were often locked. Very little sound proofing so sleep was difficult.

Liked: great location near all the tourist spots.

Disliked: The showers were pretty poor, didn't stay on for more than 5 seconds and someone had ripped all the hangers off the door.

Liked: Easy to find, good location if you like the inner city.

Disliked: Showers are a bit painful, bathrooms quite cramped and the internet is furiously overpriced.

Liked: Its location was top-notch - right in the center of everything.

Disliked: Hallways smelled moldy and it's kinda expensive, but I suppose that's what you pay for such a great location.

Liked: Big lockers under beds.My room was air conditioned.Kitchen is quite big.

Disliked: It's like living in a huge commercial. The company constantly pushes sales of travel passes, tours, global gossip and drinks in their own bar (own alcohol is not allowed anywhere in the hostel). All services such as laundry, internet, breakfast etc. are provided at a hugely inflated price. The bathrooms are dirty, the bar is expensive and the staff are unfriendly. Stay at your peril!

Liked: booking a double for this hostel i recommend doing it online..its cheaper than a dorm room for 2 people that way, and its quite expensive if you just walk in. I have stayed in base many times all over the country, and this was prob one of the best ones i have stayed in.

Disliked: HUGE so looses character a bit
